PORTABLE CRIBS STILL KILLING BABIES

In a Chicago courtroom last week, Evenflo agreed to pay $2.6

million to the family of Jared Adams, asphyxiated in his

portable crib at the age of eight months.

 

Jared was one of at least 15 infants killed in the United States by the Evenflo

Happy Camper and similar portable cribs made by Evenflo

and other companies.

 

After seven years, government and industry finally agreed on new standards to

make the cribs safer. But meanwhile, little has been done to find the millions

of older, unsafe portable cribs that are still in use and still

being sold and given away at yard sales, second-hand shops

and on eBay.
