Guest guest
http://www.mercola.com/2003/jul/19/milk_asthma.htm Milk in Diet Decreases Asthma Risk Children who drink full-fat milk and eat dairy products like butter and yogurt may have half the risk of developing asthma as their peers who don’t consume such products, according to a study. Researchers suggest that an element of the dairy fat could be protecting children against asthma. Although there is a widespread belief that excluding dairy foods from a child’s diet will prevent allergy, the results indicate that the belief may not hold much value. Sydney Morning Herald June 30, 2003 DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: Yes indeed, milk can actually be good for you. However, it is probably wise to avoid pasteurized milk for the multiple reasons I discuss in a recent article. This study does not make the distinction between pasteurized and non-pasteurized dairy. However, there are clearly many benefits to be had from consuming high-quality, non-damaged dairy products. Raw or " real " milk can be further improved if the cows are exclusively grass-fed thus increasing their content of beneficial omega-3 fats and CLA. Always remember omega-3 fats are essential to your, and your children's, health. The best source for omega-3 is fish oil and cod liver oil, as, unlike other sources such as walnuts or flax seeds, it is high in two fatty acids crucial to human health, DHA and EPA. These two fatty acids are pivotal in preventing heart disease, cancer, and many other diseases. The human brain is also highly dependent on DHA - low DHA levels have been linked to depression, schizophrenia, memory loss, and a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's. When choosing your fish oil or cod liver oil, it is important to remember that not all brands are the same. In my research--and in my clinical experience with my patients--I have found that: 1) the liquid form is superior to capsules 2) certain brands definitely seem inferior to others 3) the Carlson's brand of fish oil/cod liver oil is of an exceptional quality and purity. It is likely not the only brand in the world of such high quality, but up to this point it is the only one of such quality that I can recommend, so I now offer the Carlson's fish oil and cod liver oil on Mercola.com; you can also check your local health food store to see if they carry it. It can be challenging to locate a source for raw milk, as it is illegal to sell in some states. Ideally, you can find a local farmer who will be willing to sell it to you, but if you are unable to find one please try this link: www.realmilk.com/where.html You can also check out this link to find out which states, according to the surveys they cite, permit (and prohibit) the sale of raw milk: www.magma.ca/~ca/rawmilk/sale.htm In addition to the benefits mentioned above, I am convinced that if most kids were fed real milk from grass-fed cows and avoided sugars and grains after they finished breast feeding, tooth decay would virtually disappear.
