Guest guest
Health Supreme - http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/sepp/ While we read daily headlines of actions and laws in opposition to genetic engineering of plants, there is a strange silence on the subject of human genetic engineering. Yet, the proponents of genetic eugenics are working hard to acquire the technological and scientific know-how necessary to shape mankind to the liking of their twisted minds. This ideology is gaining acceptance among scientific, high-tech, media and policy elites. A key foundational text is the book Remaking Eden: How Cloning and Beyond Will Change the Human Family, by Princeton University molecular biologist Lee Silver. Silver looks forward to a future in which the health, appearance, personality, cognitive ability, sensory capacity and the lifespan of our children all become artifacts of genetic manipulation. Silver acknowledges that financial constraints will limit their widespread adoption, so that over time society will segregate into the " GenRich " and the " Naturals " . In Silver's vision of the future, " The GenRich -- who account for ten percent of the American population -- all carry synthetic genes. All aspects of the economy, the media, the entertainment industry, and the knowledge industry are controlled by members of the GenRich class ... Naturals work as low-paid service providers or as laborers. [Eventually] the GenRich class and the Natural class will become entirely separate species with no ability to crossbreed, and with as much romantic interest in each other as a current human would have for a chimpanzee. " An excellent article in the Earth Island Journal of Spring 2001asks " Where is the opposition? " - their conclusion: " ... the prospect of re-designing the human species is beyond anything that humanity has ever before had to confront. People have trouble taking this seriously -- it seems fantastical and beyond the limits of what anyone would actually do or that society would allow. " (7/16/2003 7:11:44 PM) My recent post on minerals (Are mineral supplements a waste of money?) has sparked a discussion on synthetic vs. natural vitamins, which I think may be of interest. This is an exchange of e-mails between myself and Dr. Leo Rebello from India, an ayurvedic physician, homeopath and naturopath who is an outspoken critic of the prevailing paradigm on AIDS. Leo correctly points out that we should all eat fresh, live food and that our digestive process is of decisive importance in allowing us to absorb what we eat. He is generally against supplying " synthetic " nutrients in the form of supplements, saying that we must change our ways to really be healthy. I cannot fault him for that view, but I do believe that in a pinch, even vitamins that have not been synthesized in the intestinal tract but outside of it, supplied in supplement form, can be life-saving. Guest guest
-- Health Supreme - http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/sepp/ The Institute for Optimum Nutrition said today that restrictions for the dosage of vitamin B6 proposed by the UK government are not based on proper science and will have troublesome effects for those who rely on high dose vitamin B6 to alleviate conditions such as pre menstrual stress and chronic fatigue. " Vitamin B6 supplements at doses higher than 10 mg per day may start to disappear from shelves in all retail stores. The three million Britons who rely on taking 100 mg per day of this supplement to relieve symptoms of PMS and chronic fatigue syndrome will be forced to find alternative ways of treating their illnesses. Many studies, including the newly published study by the Institute for Optimum Nutrition, have demonstrated that taking B6 at 100 mg per day is safe... " Vitamin B6 is one of several nutrients and natural products that have been found to be very effective in prevention or treatment of some prevalent medical condition and are therefore making deep inroads lowering pharmaceutical profit margins. " People healthy on pennies of vitamins a day " means less sales of high-tech and high-cost (high profit?) pharmaceutical drugs. Several of these natural substances have been removed from the market in the last decade, such as kava kava, hypericum, the aminoacid l-tryptophan, germanium sesquioxide, DHEA and melatonin, all of them " too effective " for some condition that was a big earner for pharmaceuticals. The justification for action was always a trumped-up " safety issue " which " forced " the authorities to clamp down in protection of their friends with pharmaceutical interests - oops, that should have been consumers. Since vitamin B6 cannot possibly be removed from the market - it is one of those vital substances that the human body cannot do without - the move is to at least limit dosage to where the vitamin tablets can no longer have a real preventive or therapeutic effect. Slanted interpretation of scientific data is what seems to be the tool for lowering the dosage of freely available vitamin B6 to zilch. What some people will do for a buck! Read the story of B6 as told by ION today. Guest guest
Health Supreme - http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/sepp/ After Pharmagiant Pfizer recently launched a $ 40 M ad campaign to sell " Zoloft for everything " , now comes Eli Lilly and Co. to tell us if we're not patiently standing in line we might have ADD and should see our doctor for their new prescription drug. According to an article on CNN today, the questions on Eli Lilly's site include " How often are you distracted by activity or noise around you? " and " How often do you feel restless or fidgety? " - Responses of " sometimes " to the questions on the company's Web site prompts a message that the symptoms may be consistent with adult ADD and a visit to the doctor is recommended.
