David Armstrong, the author explains, Pediatricians frequently use epinephrine…to treat infants with bronchiolitis. He goes on to relate the findings of a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found epinephrine does nothing to shorten the hospital stay of the infants with bronchiolitis and little to improve symptoms. It gets worse. Lorry Frankel, chief of pediatric intensive care at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University is quoted “The study shows [epinephrine] doesn’t really make any difference. It emphasizes when you have this disease, other than good monitoring and supportive care, there is not much that you can really do.†I sent out a newsletter some time ago, Vitamin C and –itis Diseases that discussed vitamin C's important role in mediating inflammation (what does it all means). Vitamin C, in large enough doses will most likely help in any of these situations. I received a number of responses from this newsletter giving testament to this from suffers from arthritis, iritis, etc. Maybe Dr. Frankel should give it a try. I have a second point I want to make concerning this article. A little further on the author quotes Miles Weinberger, the director of the pediatric allergy and pulmonary unit at the University of Iowa College of Medicine (the Wall Street Journal does get sources). Regarding the widespread use and ineffectiveness the study shows, Miles had this to say doctors always like to do something. Well, there you have it. I feel much better, now. If that weren't enough, he went on to say why do doctors give antibiotics for common colds? Doctors do a lot of things that are not evidence-based or supported by good science. And all this time I've been trying to get publicity for the good science about vitamin C. Maybe I should start saying Vitamin C “ It is something to do! " ---------- I got an e-mail yesterday about the effectiveness of vitamin C that I'd like to share with you. Philip On Sunday night I went to bed with a very slight soreness in the throat. By Monday morning my throat was very sore indeed. I was also blocked up but the blocked up feeling felt sore in the nasal passages if you know what I mean. (In the UK one would take Mucron tablets for that). On top of this I felt a little dizzy and weak at the joints. I thought 'severe cold or touch of flu'. On Monday morning I began taking 5g of Calcium Ascorbate at approximately 1 hr intervals. After a few hours my throat was much better, and I was feeling less sore in the nasal passages. My stools were quite loose at this point so I continued taking 5g of Calcium Ascorbate at 2 hr intervals instead. By Monday evening my throat was virtually back to normal. It was no longer even a little bit sore - but I felt there was something there if I swallowed. There was no soreness in the nasal passages and I was generally less blocked. The feeling of dizziness and weakness in my bones had however increased since the morning and I went to bed early. I took one 5g dose in the middle of the night. On Tuesday morning I was as fit as a fiddle. No weakness, no evidence that I even had had a sore throat, and only slightly blocked. I continued the 5g doses every 2 hrs. By Tuesday midday all symptoms had completely vanished. In just over 24 hrs I went from severe cold or flu to completely well. I've had colds like this before that have lasted more than 2 weeks. My wife and I have both found this incredible. It amazes me that more people aren't aware of the benefits of Vitamin C. I will probably now take a couple of grams daily. -------- Your comments are always encouraged and appreciated.
