Supposedly--but I don't like the idea of chlorine, in however dilute a form, on

my food. There's already more than is helpful in tap water. I have tried a

commercial product from my health food store, an " environmentally safe,

non-toxic " etc. wash and that may be good, but I don't much like the slippery

feel of the fruit if it isn't rinsed enough. Most of the time, if I have had to

buy something non-organic, I feel safer rubbing the stuff with bicarbonate of

soda--something that could be ingested without problem but is really easy to

rinse off.

The question was asked: Does washing produce in a diluted bleach bath help

remove toxins/pesticides?

Raine replies: I have heard that a diluted vinegar solution works well. I feel

better using vinegar over bleach.

A bleach bath suggests chlorine. It certainly will reduce various organic

substances that it comes in contact with.

Chlorine is very active and will combine with many organic substances, since

these may well be present on the outside of vegetables some of them will be

eliminated by the bleach solution.

A reasonable bleach solution will be used up quickly on vegetables.

Now what is the best bleach solution?

Ask someone who knows.

Best Regards,

Hi Claire!

Try this---

Wash a carrot in a bleach solution.

Then rinse it in a baking soda solution--------several times to see how

quickly the soda eliminates the chlorine--I suspect the first soda bath will

be enough.

Now IF you wash your dishes in a dishwasher with dishwasher soap---Why not

put the veggies in the dishwasher with the same amount of soap and run them

thru the cycle.

This is a good thread to investigate.
