More and more paediatricians are embracing the idea, and acupuncture is now an option at about one-third of the 43 paediatric pain clinics in the US. Dr Lixing Lao, a licensed acupuncturist and director of the traditional Chinese medicine research programme, at the University of Maryland's Center for Integrative Medicine, says acupuncture also showed promise for several childhood health problems, including asthma, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, eating disorders and even attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
