Growing acceptance of acupuncture

A growing number of acupuncturists, as well as other healthcare providers, are

offering the ancient Chinese therapy to children. More and more paediatricians

are embracing the idea, and acupuncture is now an option at about one-third of

the 43 paediatric pain clinics in the US. Dr Lixing Lao, a licensed

acupuncturist and director of the traditional Chinese medicine research

programme, at the University of Maryland's Center for Integrative Medicine, says

acupuncture also showed promise for several childhood health problems, including

asthma, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, eating disorders and even attention-deficit

hyperactivity disorder. (HealthScout 30/06/03)
