AIDS sufferers AIDS sufferers 'turning to alternatives'

 

 

Half of the people in the US with HIV use alternative medicines such as

megavitamin doses or herbs to replace or supplement anti-HIV drugs, according to

researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles. Anti-retroviral drugs

are expensive, complicated to take and may cause serious side effects, and this

may explain the popularity of alternative methods. A quarter of those questioned

said they had not told their doctor about the alternative treatments despite the

risk of adverse interactions with the anti-HIV drugs. (Health and Age 30/06/03)
