Guest guest
Tardive duskinesia is a product of lipid peroxidation due to chronic drug use. Thus it can be prevented with an elevated antioxidant program. Here's something on glutathione for example. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?CMD=Search & DB=PubMed and enter " tardive dyskinesia " glutathione to see " Biochemical analysis revealed that chronic haloperidol treatment significantly induced lipid peroxidation, decreased glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase levels in the brains of rats. " You'll see the research also cites vitamin E, which has been used for neurodegenerative disorders with small success, and selenium. They are instrumental in creating glutathione(selenium), and keeping glutathione in it's reduced form (antioxidants work together). Because the damage is caused by oxidation, it can be prevented or slowed as above, pursuant to the protocols for other neurodegenerative disorders that also respond to a good antioxidant program, such as ALS, MS, alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease etc... and it can also be reversed by increasing HGH growth hormone levels pursuant to protocols for these neurodegenerative disorders, some data for which appears on http://members.shaw.ca/patriciagilbert/HGH_neuro_medline.html Although HGH injections were tested on the neurodegenerative disorders in the peer-reviewed studies, the significance is that the oral mix commonly used by doctors, for HGH increase, does also include branched-chain amino acids. Also a vitamin and mineral program especially one that includes b- vitamins with 25 mg to 60 mg b-12 methylcobalamin (active form) daily has been shown also to induce repair of neural sheaths. That information appears somewhere on the Life extension Foundation site, under ALS protocol. Note the ALS protocol is pretty thorough; it also includes antioxidant therapy and growth hormone increasers. Anyway, the data suggests that both avoidance and reversal of the damage is possible, and a program is likely to work better than a single supplement.
