Natural Healing: What You're Not Being Told JoAnn Guest Jun 15, 2003 15:36

Here’s your FREE preview of Dr. Julian Whitaker’s new consumer guide,

Natural Healing: What You’re NOT Being Told.

Just because it’s “natural” doesn’t mean it’s good.

I have been a huge supporter of the nutritional supplement industry for

more than 25 years.

Today, this same industry that has improved thousands of lives and

saved a fortune in unnecessary drugs and surgery, is riddled with risk.

The good news, however, is that countless “miracle” remedies really do

exist, and vitamins and supplements can still transform your health and

your life. As long as you know the right ones to use.

Here’s just a small sample of what you’ll discover in your free guide,

Natural Healing: What You’re NOT Being Told. (Click here to receive the

complete printed free Guide.) It may well be the most important health

guide you will ever see.

Blue-Green Algae: Here’s a natural product that distributors claim will

cure whatever ails you, from preventing cancer to promoting weight loss.

According to marketing literature, taking blue-green algae will make you

feel good consistently, need less sleep, have higher energy, stronger

immunity, better digestion, and more.

Unfortunately, there is little evidence to support the benefits as a

nutritional supplement, and certainly none to substantiate the wild

claims made by distributors. There has, however, been some disturbing

research. Several species of blue-green algae have been shown to produce

toxins such as microcystin-LR, which can cause liver damage.

Given all this, I suggest you stay away from products containing

blue-green algae. If you want a “green superfood,” stick with spirulina

or try one of the excellent green drinks that contain wheat or barley

grass juice, along with extracts of other nutritious green plants. They

will give you a greater quantity and array of health-enhancing

phytonutrients.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): For patients with heart disease, CoQ10 can be a

lifesaver. It protects LDL cholesterol from oxidation, protects the

artery walls, lowers blood pressure, reduces angina, and smoothes

irregular heartbeats. Perhaps more important, COQ10 is involved in

energy production within the mitochondria of your cells—it is the spark

plug that gets things going, and is particularly active in the heart.

Unfortunately some conventional cardiologists dismiss CoQ10. All I can

say is that they must have their heads buried in the sand! Scores of

solid scientific studies support its efficacy, and the clinical

experience of physicians who do utilize it is excellent.

The dose we recommend for our heart patients here at the Institute is

100 – 400 milligrams a day, in divided doses.

(Patients with heart disease may need to double this dosage.) Make sure

you buy from a reputable source. A recent analysis revealed that one

brand tested contained only 17 percent the amount of CoQ10 boasted on

the label! Brands we use at the Whitaker Wellness Institute include

Vitaline’s chewable CoQ10 wafers and Healthy Directions’ Bio-Q

Essentials.

Human Growth Hormone Precursors: Human growth hormone (hGH) is the most

powerful anti-aging therapy yet discovered. Supplemental hGH, which is

injected into muscle, has been shown in studies to help reverse the

changes incurred during 10 to 20 years of aging. Other studies have

shown that hGH facilitates wound healing, improves immune function,

increases energy and sexual function, strengthens the heart muscle,

raises protective HDL cholesterol, lowers blood pressure, and is an

excellent therapy for heart failure. In addition, it has been reported

to improve vision, tremors, hair growth, memory, and mood.

With all these benefits, someone was bound to come up with a natural

product that “does the same thing.” There are dozens of powders, pills,

sublinguals, and sprays currently on the market that claim to contain

hGH.

The problem is, all of the research on the benefits of hGH has

involved the injected form.

The distributors of these natural products

cite the published research on prescription hGH, as if their “natural”

products have the same effects.

I have seen evidence that some of these products do raise IGF-1 levels (a marker

of HGH) to some degree, but whether they are as effective in countering aging is

unclear. And although these products are less pricey than the prescription form,

they still command upwards of $100 a month,

which, for an unproven product, is a lot.

Save your money.

Colostrum: Colostrum is produced by female mammals during the first 24

to 48 hours after giving birth. It contains immune factors the mother

has acquired over her lifetime, along with antioxidants, vitamins,

minerals, enzymes, amino acids, and growth factors. The immune factors

in bovine (cow) colostrum are identical to those found in human

colostrum, but at much higher levels.

In the past 20 years, more than 2,000 research papers have been

published strongly supporting the benefits of bovine colostrum. There

has also been a glut of promoters saying that colostrum cures any and

all infectious diseases, not to mention cancer. At the Whitaker Wellness

Institute, we recommend colostrum to our patients at the first sign of a

cold or flu, and we would also include it as part of an immune-enhancing

program for more serious diseases.

However, I would never suggest that

colostrum is a cure-all.

This is another example of a good product that

has been oversold. The suggested dose of bovine colostrum is 4,500 mg

twice daily on an empty stomach with water.

Make sure the product you

select is collected during the first 24 to 48 hours after birth from

cows that are certified to be free of hormones and disease.
