Guest guest
There is a problem with substituting KCl for NaCl as table salt. Japanese studies have confirmed that Chloride rather than Sodium is the trigger for the hypertensive response in salt sensitivity. This has been shown both in animals and humans. The solution shown in the Japanese studies is pharmaceutical grade Chitosan, which binds chloride ions (and other toxins) preventing uptake into the blood from the gut. Blood pressure spikes were completely eliminated by taking a few capsules of Chitosan prior to any meal containing chlorides. Also, apparently KCl is used intravenously to stop the heart from beating. Potassium is abundantly available in all vegetables and fruits, so an inorganic source is in no way helpful for achieving a healthy cardiovascular support diet. Guest guest
Overdoing potassium is probably a greater health risk than table salt, NaCl. In severe burn victims, the burn causes a lot of cells to rupture allowing the potassium (K is more concentrated inside the cell) to be released into the bloodstream. Elevated blood levels of potassium then cause the person to go into a coma. In the diet potassium should exist at a ratio of 2:1 with sodium. Sodium is important but it should be gained from food rather than salt. From a video presentation by Dr. Morter he told of a study in which NaCl, table salt, caused high blood pressure. But then when sodium in a different form was given it did not have the same results. And, when chloride in a different form was given, it did not cause the problem. It was the NaCl in the form of table salt that caused the problems. There is a place for NaCl in the diet but in low amounts. Chloride is important too. The minerals in our food are absorbed after the chloride from stomach acid, HCl, binds with the mineral. For example the iron in the food is acted upon by HCl to produce iron chloride which is then taken up in the duodenum. Guest guest
Thanks for the warning about potassium as I have a bottle and I take one when my heart rhythm gets " weird " . I learned potassium would help my heart when I was in the hospital for 3 days with giardisis and they pumped potassium into me as fast as they could. I have since been diagnosed with CFIDS (the unrecognized neglected illness that you can catch but the CDC does not want anyone to know this) and the CFIDS Chronicle recommends that those of us with it take lots of extra salt to increase our blood volume and blood pressure so we don't pass out. I don't buy the sodium theory of high blood pressure at all. Its just more AMA garbage like cholesteral causing heart attacks. Guest guest
Bronson a vitamin seller, sells Vitamin C powder containing Calcium, Potassium and Magnesium. Albertson's, a grocery store sells two types of " Sea Salt " that still have all the trace minerals. Might be something there. Guest guest
I use Celtic sea salt and it tastes quite different from the usual table salt. I use a salt mill, too.
