Resistance Is Fertile! Come To Sacramento June 20-25, 2003

califpacific

CALL TO ACTION:

** RESIST CORPORATE DOMINATION OF THE WORLD'S FOOD SUPPLY **

JUNE 20-25, SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA

The United States Dept. of Agriculture (USDA) and the US State

Department have invited Ministers of Trade, Agriculture, and Health from

180 nations to a Ministerial Conference and Expo On Agricultural Science

and Technology.

Agriculture is currently one of the most contentious issues inside the

WTO where member countries can't reach an agreement, making the

Sacramento Conference an important destination on the US government's

pre-Cancun WTO itinerary. Sacramento is an equally important destination

for anyone concerned about genetically engineered foods, the rights of

small farmers, the environment and agricultural biotech companies

controlling the world's food supply. It will take place in downtown

Sacramento from June 20-25, 2003. Neither the Conference nor the Expo

is open to the general public. In response to these closed discussions

of our food supply, a broad coalition of community organizations from

Northern California have come together to organize an alternative

convention in the streets of Sacramento.

COME TO SACRAMENTO

The Sacramento Coalition for Sustainable Agriculture is organizing a

response to the Conference and Expo. Events in Sacramento will include a

rally and march, media events, street theater, public education forums

and literature, and non-violent direct actions. The Sacramento Coalition

for Sustainable Agriculture is made up of organic farmers, family

farmers, commercial/recreational fishers, environmentalists, labor,

religious, and economic/social justice groups.

We encourage everyone who is concerned about the corporate control of

our food to join our network and/or organize actions leading up to June

23-25. Our intent is to non-violently confront the government and

corporate entities that control our food supply with an alternative to

their destructive, self-serving practices. People and ecosystems

worldwide already suffer the health, environmental and economic effects

of industrial agriculture. The same unaccountable global corporations

which, in their relentless quest for bigger and bigger profits, brought

us the Roundup Ready and Terminator seeds, the toxicity of Love Canal,

the 30,000+ causalities of Bhopal and the ecological catastrophe of the

Exxon Valdez are now claiming to be on a quest to rid the world of

hunger.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Seize this opportunity to demand safe, sustainable agriculture, the

rights of farmers to practice the time-tested traditional methods of

their forebears, and non-toxic, naturally grown food for every man,

woman and child on the planet.

Come to Sacramento this June to join this festival of resistance. If you
