Guest guest
May I agree completely with the first half of your post-------- Then may I say that there are several other areas for the second half of the post about Gerd. One thing that prompted me to reply was the sentence-- " > " In the stomach, muscular *contractions* thoroughly mix foods with *hydrochloric acid*. " Here on this list as a recovering Gerd Sufferer: I have found several sites on the internet that describe studies that show that the stomach is a really weak mixing organ and the one should chew their food to a liquid state--as the stomach is not going to mix it--Or maybe one could eat rocks or gravel like Dinosaurs or birds if on does no wish to chew. Stomach acid-powerful enough to strip paint- is a vital part of good digestion. A thick mucous layer protects the stomach walls from harm as the acid *kills* bacteria and parasites and *frees* up minerals and the B vitamins so that they can be absorbed in the small intestine. If sufficient stomach acid isn't produced, digestion suffers. The passage of food out of the stomach into the small intestine is delayed when there is insufficient amounts, leading to *heartburn* as the stomach pushes food mixed with acid back into the esophagus. Burning is caused by acid coming in contact with the lining of the *esophagus*, which isn't protected by a mucous layer like the stomach is. Guest guest
---Hi Lorenzo, As we grow older and as the aging effects of free radicals take over, our stomach muscles undergo some changes and succumb to the aging process as well as the rest of our body. That's why its so important to take the right supplements in order to counteract this. I prefer to think that most of these problems are directly related to a lack of hydrochloric acid in addition to our overuse of " anti- acids " , i.e., TUMS along with other similar OTC stomach " aids " . Tums comes resplendent with heavy metals, primarily *aluminum*, and many other additives as well which contract stomach muscles rendering them ineffective for digestion. Too much calcium (which are prevalentin these anti-acids, only make the problems worse by decreasing the supply of HCI (stomach acid) while affecting the muscles adversely as well. This is one reason why it's so important to have a balance of calcium and magnesium. Usually people aren't counting anti-acids in their calcium intake which can pose an additional problem. All our muscles are affected by too much calcium intake, not just the stomach muscles, calcium constricts muscle tissue (including the heart muscles)however, apparently magnesium helps our muscles relax. Too much calcium only makes matters worse as you can see, and apparently according to several experts, the calcium present in these anti-acids are the very worst for this (calcium carbonate). It is usually derived from an inferior source which only complicates matter worse. In addition, and this is something most people don't realize,... a lack of stomach acid can lead to a prevalence of parasites and candida. These strong stomach acids will destroy these unwelcome invaders in a healthy stomach whereas insufficent acid will allow their unhindered growth! Makes sense to me. <g> Best Regards, JoAnn In Gettingwell , " LF " <lorenzo1@w...> wrote: > May I agree completely with the first half of your post-------- > > Then may I say that there are several other areas for the second half of > the post about Gerd. > > One thing that prompted me to reply was the sentence-- " > > > > " In the stomach, muscular *contractions* > thoroughly mix foods with *hydrochloric acid*.
