Guest guest
Hi everyone, I too am new to this list and also have Type 2 diabetes. I would love to do some detox stuff at home, liver and colon cleanse, and that kind of thing but most of the ones I read about all have those nasty little words " not suitable for diabetics " at the bottom! I would also prefer something not too complicated. Does anyone have any ideas or links? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
The best colon cleanse I know of for diabetics is vitamin C. By taking vitamin C to bowel tolerance, one gets a loose stool. But taking a bit more, one gets a good flushing of the bowels. How much vitamin C that takes will depend on many things. We each need different amounts of vitamin C each day. In my experience, it is best not to take a handful of C tablets all at once. Mixing powdered C with water & sipping slowly over the day is my preferred method. I use a bit more than a teaspoon full of C per 16 ounces of water, but others may find a different strength works better for them. I like it tart, but not so tart my throat feels abused. Powdered C is about 4 grams (4,000 mg) per level teaspoon. Powdered C is the cheapest way to buy Vitamin C. For me, I take about 25-35 grams a day, with higher doses when doing a colon cleanse. Tablets can also be used, but I would not recommend taking a handful of tablets at once. I would start with one 1,000 mg tablet every half hour. If no bowel flush by evening, take 1 tablet every 15 minutes the following day. Since one is taking a large amount of C, I would avoid tablets or powder containing Sodium Ascorbate, because that would put a huge amount of Sodium into your system. See the list archives, accessible thru Gettingwell for further info on taking vitamin C to bowel tolerance.
