Guest guest
This from Wired News today. Full article at URL at the end. The article does not question vaccination strategy so I just put the relevant parts below. Alobar A nurse has died and another woman is on life support, possibly as a result of the smallpox vaccine. Seven patients who received the vaccine have experienced heart problems days after they were inoculated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding announced Tuesday night that anyone who has been diagnosed with serious heart disease, including coronary artery disease, angina or a history of heart attack, should not receive the smallpox vaccine. Although researchers can't yet determine whether the vaccine caused the death and the other heart problems, CDC officials are choosing to err on the side of caution. " We didn't want to wait to make deferral while we figured this out, " Gerberding said. The Maryland state health department said the nurse died on Sunday after receiving a smallpox vaccination on March 18. Gerberding said officials had determined the cause of death was a heart attack related to coronary artery disease. http://www.wired.com/news/medtech/0,1286,58214,00.html
