Guest guest
Health Wire: Why Red Wine is Beneficial Researchers in Japan have determined that it is the polyphenols in red wine that may protect against heart disease. The polyphenols act vasodilators, causing blood vessels to expand and allowing more blood to go through, according to Masayoshi Hashimoto, M.D., of the University of Tokyo. Speaking at the annual meeting of the American Heart Association in Dallas, Hashimoto said that vasodilation improved by 30 percent after the small group of healthy men drank red wine. Polyphenols are found in the skins of grapes, as well as in olives and in green tea. ----Kahn J. Benefits of red wine may not be due to alcohol content.
