MRA stands for MR Angiography, a study of the blood vessels looking for

occlusion, or blockage. Not what you are looking for here.

Cervical spine and soft tissue are basically the same exam. The C-spine exam

will look at the facets and spacing of the cervical bones to see if you have

impingement of a nerve root. The Soft Tissue will look to see if tissue around

the C-Spine is damaged. But the technologist who sets up the protocol for the

exam can, and usually does, set up a series to look at both in the same study.

Not sure why you want to know this. The Radiologist will prescribe the exam

based on what he or she is looking for.

Which MRI's to take for neck trouble

3 types of MRI's are available for looking at cervical damage. They

are: 1. MRA 2. Cervical Spine 3. SoftTissue

The MRIs are for a young healthy person that had an accident that

forced him to jerk forcefully to the left and injure C3 C5 C6 and C7.

Which of the MRI's would show pressure on a nerve or artery? Can

somebody explain or provide a resource for highlighting the

differences between the 3 types of MRIs.

Thank you.
