" A new Republican-pushed law that threatens to undermine federal

organic

food standards suddenly looks vulnerable today, with President Bush's

agriculture secretary coming out against it and repeal legislation

attracting backers from both parties.

The law, a rider slipped into the $397 billion federal spending bill

that

passed two weeks ago and signed by Bush, would allow poultry and beef

to

be raised on nonorganic feed but still be labeled organic. "

Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrghhhh. Everything boils down to the

dollar for votes. I checked into this story because I

raise rare chickens as a hobby. I cannot and would

not classify them as organic because I cannot afford

the 50# bag of organic feed priced at $40.00. I wish

I could. But fact is I am forced to pay $6.50 for

scratch grain. I refuse to use the laying mash or

pellets filled with hormone supplements. I do the

best I can with what I can afford but am not about to

make false claims nor would I want someone else to be

allowed to by law.

Here is the site for the Organics Consumers Ass. for

those who would like to use their information to voice

your votes. I apologize if it is already in the links

section.

**btw, Frank. I finally got into the links section to

take a browse. Good job. I also changed my email

from my aol (browngoldpanners) to my for

convenience.
