kelp

In my reading, I have come upon several webages which warned

that people who cut back on their salt intake may experience Iodine

deficiencies because table salt is iodized. Now, I have cut back my

salt intake by maybe 90% over the past year and a half. Since I eat

fish once a week at most, I suspect I am not getting a real good dose

of Iodine. Someone on Gettingwell-list suggested Norwegian kelp as

an Iodine supplement. Available in both capsule & powdered. Can be

used as a salt substitute on foods. Hmmmmm.

I found some kelp in the bulk food section of Whole Foods the

other day. Very expensive. 65 cents an ounce. Luckily I am using a

lot less salt these days. So I scored some kelp & put it in a salt

shaker. Looks funky. Light tan color with hints of green.

I was worried it would be an ordeal to eat, but it is

actually pleasant. Salty & tangy. But definitely the hint of the sea

as well. Not something I could put on salt-a-holic friends' popcorn &

have them not make comments. It does have a flavor. But not real

strong when used in moderation.

While web surfing, I came upon something which interested me.

Back when I was a kid, I had psoriasis on both knees. Much worse in

the winter than the summer. I reasoned out that something from my

swimming in the salt water from the Long Island Sound was good for my

psoriasis. So one winter I was at a beach walking with my Dad. I told

him my theory. My father looked around & found en empty beer bottle.

We washed it out & filled it with salt water. Then we found some

seaweed. When I got home, I put the seaweed on my psoriasis, directed

the small UV tanning lamp at my knees, and kept the seaweed moist

with the salt water. My mother thought I was nuts. I repeated this 2

or three times over the next week. Being 11 or 12 at the time, I

quickly tired of the " experiment " when I did not see immediate

results. So I did not persist with it.

But my psoriasis began to fade. Not instantly. But over several

weeks. By the end of Winter (when I usually had the grossest looking

knees), the psoriasis was all gone. Gone completely. Never again to

return over the next 45 or so years.

While reading on the web just now, I saw that kelp is

recommended for psoriasis. I saw that and chuckled to myself.

Amazing what one intuitively knows if one just listens to the body.

Not just wild animals have a knack for self-healing. We humans have

it as well, if we just learn to listen within.

Marloe,

I take 3 dbl 00 capsules 2 times per day. Usually in the morning before the gym and then again around 2pm.

Also, I just read in Doc Shillington's info that Astragulus is great for the metabolism, so I just went out and got some of that too. I plan on taking them both, so I'll let you know how it goes.
