Guest guest
Wouldn't it be a good idea if people who post LONG articles could summarize them in the first paragraph, for us poor mortals who have not got time to read EVERYTHING Thanks
Guest guest
There certainly are too many posts to read them all, however, for those I am interested in, I prefer to see every last detail. Large articles are usually carefully written to include pertinent info that would otherwise be longed for. If you consider it in another way as well, it's probly a bit far-fetched for someone who is reading many long articles (which they are kind enuf to share), to have time also to do the extra work of guessing which parts are pertinent to others, pulling stuff out and making a sensible simple introductory paragraph of it all. I find I just have to prioritize which posts I am willing to take time to read. CG

Many of my friends and family members say they don't have time to read all the mail. Often they do not have the time or mindset to make the effort required to stay healthy. I work very hard trying to convince younger people to spend a few hours per week reading, studying , and trying to stay healthy. If they don't do it when they are younger, they may have time to do it when older and they are disabled. I think one of the most important questions to ask any doctor one is forced to vist is........ " how many hours do you read each week " ? He he does not answer, or is insulted, or does not spend a few hours reading each week...... " Get up and LEAVE " . How could anyone trust his health to someone who don't have time to read or thinks he knows everything already. Wayne
Guest guest
When I re-post long articles obtained from this list into my on-line journal for friends to read, I do so the following way: a) I sometimes write my own introduction if it is not immediately clear why someone should take the time/effort to read the whole thing to persuade them to do so. I also mention whether the website has info not in the text of the article I am quoting (hotlinks, etc.) b) I locate a juicy paragraph or three within the paragraph & copy that just below my little introduction. In journalism, I believe this is called a pull-quote. c) Then I copy the entire article so it is fully in my journal, even if the referencing website is later moved or taken down. d) Finally, I put the referencing URL (if I have it) as a footnote showing where I got the info from. Something like what I do for my journal would be handy & useful on this list, although I do recognize it takes work & effort. If someone does not have the time to do something like this, I'd much rather have the whole article than just a synopsis. Guest guest
Could we do a poll on this? I too would prefer a summary. sharon - shirley holder Gettingwell Sunday, February 02, 2003 10:05 AM Re: Summarize long posts I AGREE Mike Williams <100755.66 wrote: Wouldn't it be a good idea if people who post LONG articles could summarize them in the first paragraph, for us poor mortals who have not got time to read EVERYTHING Thanks
