Guest guest
If memory serves, The Web That Has No Weaver has a section on gastric ulcers. There are I believe 6 possible Roots of gastric ulcers so TCM treatment will vary according to the Root. In Western herbalism slippery elm bark tea often is used for stomach and duodenal (first section of the small intestine) ulcers. Another treatment is the use of citrus fruits or juices on an empty stomach. Citrus fruits and juices are acidic but trigger an alkaline reaction in the stomach when consumed on an empty stomach. This treatment works when an overly acidic stomach is a factor in the ulcer. This treatment is not for someone whose stomach lacks enough acid. (Insufficient stomach acid can be the cause of poor digestion and poor assimilation of minerals.) This treatment also is not for someone with ulcers in the esophagus. The citrus fruit or juice is acidic until it reaches the stomach where it triggers an alkaline reaction. The acidity of the fruit or juice will irritate ulcers in the esophagus on the way from the mouth to the stomach. Oddly enough, the treatment will work in some (not all) cases of gastric reflux - as long as there are not ulcers in the esophagus. Do not mix the citrus fruit or juice with any grain product (bread, cereal, etc.) as this mixture will cause the stomach to become more acidic. Guest guest
Nature Dear List, A friend has been complaining over a year about a ulcer and severe pain. I finally convinced her to drink 4 glasses of cabbage juice daily. It is fantastic and is controlling the pain. Anything else we can do to actually cure the ulcer? Will the cabbage juice actually cure the ulcer? Lianne
