I poured off some into a plastic bottle, which I put in the icebox. The question: is it safe to keep it in plastic for a short term ( 2 weeks )? Guest guest Posted January 21, 2003 Report Share Posted January 21, 2003 Most flax oil comes in plastic containers, no-one i know ever suggested there would be a problem in this.But, the fact that they would bottle it in glass, which is more expensive, in my opinion makes them seem extremely conscientious. Guest guest Posted January 21, 2003 Report Share Posted January 21, 2003 There can be a problem with plastic bottles, and that is how they were made. They have more or less plasticizers which may leach out into the liquid stored in them. The bottom of the plastic bottle should have on it a little triangle within which is a number. This number is an indication of how safe or not it is to store liquids in the container, with number one being the safest, and number 5, the highest number used, being the least. The colouring of the bottle is also a protection for its contents. In this case anyway, I would prefer to use the glass bottle.
