Guest guest
I recently posted here about my efforts to take flaxseed oil in combination with a cysteine/sulphered protein other than cottage cheese (since I don't do well on even organic dairy). I was especially anxious to do this when I learned that ingesting this particular combination of foods was one of the few ways to initiate the cellular production of glutathione--the " mother " of all antioxidants. I tried both raw salmon (ceviche) and raw egg yolk. Either one would have been perfect in terms of suppling the cysteine, but unfortunately neither one worked for me--probably because I am very low in stomach acid and also in the throes of a healing crisis and have had a low grade fever for over a month now. All I got for my troubles was gas and sleepless nights, so I had to give up those forms of protein--which was probably just as well since I'm not supposed to have them anyway on the Gerson protocol I'm following. I was sorry, though, to give up on the glutathione source and also worried about taking the flaxseed oil without any protein (something Budwig advised against.) So you can imagine how happy I was to find--in rereading my Gerson book--the following information that had never registered in my brain the first time through: " Under the influence of a coffee enema the GST (glutathione S-transferase) enzyme system increases in activity to 650 percent about normal and removes electrophiles (free radicals) from the bloodstream. " Elsewhere in the book, it says that the GST will also " mop up " excess bilirubin. Just before I went into this healing crisis, I had some blood work done and my Total Bili (bilirubin) score, instead of falling between the 0.5-1.0 normal level was elevated to 2.5. I am now taking two coffee enemas a day and hoping that when I go back for a new blood test, that score will be normal. Claire
