Guest guest
I beg to differ with this report, I have a neighbour who could hardly walk as she had osteoarthritis in her feet until she started on glucosomine & chondroitin - she now can walk 5 miles if the mood takes her - but regularly walks 1 mile. I personally think that glucosomine sulfate alone is better than the 2 combined/ Marianne > > > > > http://www.mercola.com/2000/mar/19/glucosamine_chondrotin_may_help_arthritis.htm > > Glucosamine and chondroitin, two animal products marketed as food > supplements, do appear to help relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis. Guest guest
http://www.mercola.com/2000/mar/19/glucosamine_chondrotin_may_help_arthritis.htm Glucosamine and chondroitin, two animal products marketed as food supplements, do appear to help relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis. The authors analyzed 15 previously published studies of the effects of glucosamine and chondroitin on osteoarthritis. The combined results of the studies, adjusted for quality and variability in the supplements, indicated a moderate benefit from glucosamine treatment and a large benefit from chondroitin treatment. However, the researchers uncovered some quality problems with previous research which suggest that the actual benefit of treatment with glucosamine and chondroitin is likely to be less than the studies indicate. The Journal of the American Medical Association March 15, 2000;283:1469-1475, 1483-1484 DR. MERCOLA'S COMMENT: The reason why this study is so important is that it was published in the biggest medical journal in the world, JAMA. When JAMA reports that an alternative therapy works, you had better believe that it works as they only reluctantly publish findings which promote natural therapies. Glucosamine and chondortin do work. However, it is important that one use high quality products. There is no question that these cartilage precursors do work for osteoarthritis (not rheumatoid arthritis). The likely explanation for some of the conflicting previously published research likely has to do with the quality of the supplements that were used. Guest guest
---I have to agree with Marrianne in that glucosamine is probably better on its own as I have heard that the chondroitin is not absorbed and you are wasting money as the combined tablets are generally more expensive.A friend had an arthritic elbow and I suggested glucosamine (won't consider diet even though he has MS, you can't win them all)6 weeks later no pain at all.It does seem to take about a month to start feeling the benefits. I also have an 11 year old mongrel who had an arthritic shoulder, you could hear the bones crunching but she has glucosamine and she even chases the crows again and does not seem to be in any pain. Guest guest
Chris - you should do a search on the internet and get all the info on MS that you can - in some cases this can be reversed. Does this friend have diet drinks by any chance, is there a slight chance that the symptoms could be caused by aspartame. It is such a shame that this person could get their life back if they would only make a few changes - it would not have to be a permanent thing - give it 3 months to see if the health remains the same or gets better, if it remains the same live as you want but if it gets better then they will know that the changes are for life. Here are a couple of sites to get you started. http://www.gethealthyagain.com/multiplesclerosis.html http://www.nationalmssociety.org//Brochures-Food%20for.asp http://www.msa-sea.org/Medical/Alternative/CAM.htm Marianne > A > friend had an arthritic elbow and I suggested > glucosamine (won't consider diet even though he has > MS, you can't win them all)6 weeks later no pain at >
Guest guest
Marrianne Thanks for the concern and the information which I will pass on to my friend but he really has stuck his head in the mud over changing his diet. Some people just cannot see the wood for the trees. I have another friend who consistently gives her children drinks loaded with aspartame and artificial additives and then wonders why they have erratic behaviour, " but I'm just that health nut who is paranoid about what you eat " It is so frustrating when the answers are all outthere but people cannot be bothered to find it for themselves and when you find it for them they cannot be bothered to make the lifestyle changes and call you a health freak. Sorry to go on Chris Everything you'll ever need on one web page from News and Sport to Email and Music Charts http://uk.my.
Guest guest
Chris I do know where you are coming from, even in the supermarket I cannot resist asking people if they know exactly what they are doing to their bodies by drinking these things. Did you know that drinks laden with aspartame can cause MS symptoms, if you would like a sheet on aspartame and it's associated health problems, let me know I keep most of what comes in on these groups that I think may well help others. People just have to go their own way, I know so many who do not want to well and until they do, there is nothing anyone can say to them that will change their minds. My mil is dying of multiple myloma - I have given her several articles about the Budwig diet - she is just ignoring it (probably thinks I am trying to rush the inevitable) and is having dreadful chemo that will do absolutely nothing for her - it is probably excelerating her death. We can lead the horse to water but we cannot make them drink no matter how passionate we are about health. I think that to call you a health freak is a complement, next time they say, you should say, thank you what a compliment - see what their reaction is to that. Guest guest
Marrianne Thanks Marriane for the support. I have lots of information on aspartame.I photocopy it, take it to work, say Dont let yout kids drink this stuff. They read it and then carry on as normal. Unfortunatly children get used to the artificial taste. I recently bought some lemonade it was only supermarket lemonade but a better quality product with no artificial flavours or sweeteners and my son complained it was too lemony and went out and bought some cheap artificial tat. You cant win. I do hope Mil takes notice of the budwig diet. That must be awful Knowing she can be helped especially with all the people on this site that have experienced it and found that it helped.
