William Kaufman, M.D., Ph.D. was one of the first doctors to recommend high

doses of vitamins in the treatment of arthritis. His publication

bibliography dates from 1936 to his death at the age of 88 in 2000. One

focus of his work was the use of niacinamide , a form of vitamin B3, in the

treatment of arthritis. He treated arthritis with niacinamide for over 60

years and has published research on this topic beginning in 1953. His claim

is that niacinamide acts as a therapeutic agent greatly reducing arthritis

pain. The following articles discuss his ideas concerning niacinamide and

arthritis:

Double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials consistently report a

therapeutic effect of fish oil supplementation for arthritis. Effects most

commonly reported include reducing the number of tender joints and morning

stiffness. The mechanism of this effect is thought to be related to a

reduction of the inflammation response associated with arthritis.
