Guest guest
Thought I would send this to you all for info just in case you are wondering about how to remove meds safely - just my opinion and the way I did it, I am sure there are a lot of others who have also managed to get off meds in all sorts of ways. Hi, I read a post from John P to JoAnn about getting off of meds - I thought about this and have decided that perhaps my experience would be of help to you John. I joined these groups some 15 months ago, taking approx 8 meds per day and feeling that I would be dead by the age of 55 if I didn't do something to recover my health. At that point I was not aware that I could reverse any of the problems that I had - narrowed arteries (60% & 80% blockages), hbp, high cholesterol, gallstones, thyroid problems that 2 years later have still not been resolved fully but I didn't/don't take meds for it. I had been told by my dr and my sister (a nurse in allopathics and also a natural therapist, but 30 years of having this drummed into her) that it was impossible to reverse the damage but it was possible to keep it under control with DRUGS. After a couple of months on the groups I knew that this was in fact a total fabrication of the truth. I tried kombucha, tibetan mushrooms (kefir - totally disgusting but very healthy if you can cope with it). I then decided, with help from a lot of people on these groups and especially JoAnn as she had been there and far worse than I ever want to be, that I would do this by changing my diet and getting rid of those meds. It took me about 6 months in total to wean myself of them safely. Cold Turkey is not good. I started in January 2002 by going 50% organic within 3 months I was 75% organic and today I am 98% organic, the 2% is what you cannot buy organic as yet. It took me this long because I had trouble in the beginning convincing my husband that this was the right way to go - today he is 98% organic also and totally agrees with me. I also started slowly on using organic extra virgin olive oil, that first bottle lasting me about 2 months, today I get through double that size bottle in a month. I do still have organic butter but 1 pack (8oz) lasts me about 2 months because I eat very little bread although I make all my own I try to stay away from it but my husband has always had sandwiches for work and will not give them up and nor would I want him to but he uses organic soya spread for his. Removing hydrogenated fats from the diet is the absolute first priority, if you don't do anything and carry on with the meds, you must remove hydrogenated fats from your diet. I then started to work on reducing the meds, very slowly. If I took 1 per day, I reduced them to 1 every other day for 2 weeks, then 1 every 3 days for 2 weeks etc. If I took more than 1 per day, I reduced them by 1 a day and so on. It will take a long time but it is definitely worth it. If you want to do it by one health issue at a time that is fine, if you are just on betablockers then it will be easy. I had beta blockers, bp pills, statins, aspirin and something to take when I had a gallstone attack. I removed the statins first and must admit that I just stopped taking these because I learned just what they were doing to me, then aspirin and replaced them immediately with white willow bark, then betablockers, then bp. The gallstone ones are something that I still have but only have to take when all else fails during an attack (very very painful attacks) which is very rare as I have them pretty much sussed right now. Today I take only supplements, my bp is still slightly raised but it is down enough to keep me off any meds, it was 180/90 at one point but last week it was 145/85 - I am still working on it and working on relaxation techniques so that I remove the stress factor which I have been told is 3/4 of my problem. Hope this helps John, start those organic foods TODAY, start using organic EV olive oil TODAY, read those labels and ensure that you are not ingesting any hydrogenated fats TODAY - you will be able to wean yourself off those meds immediately and in a very short space of time you will be feeling on top of the world. If you are lucky enough to have a dr who will monitor you whilst you go through these changes then that would be fantastic, unfortunately, my dr would not even mention 'alternative' and had no intention of helping me to get off any meds. Hope this helps and sorry it was so long. Marianne
Guest guest
Dear Group, If anyone decides to get off medications, they should be monitered during that period by a health professional to insure that it is done safely. Also, some medications have to be tapered over longer periods of time, so really learn about them before hand, not after you have tapered them too fast. Otherwise with some medications there could be a problem. Your health decisions are up to you and your health care provider. The members in this group are not doctors and we do not know your medical conditions therefore we cannot advocate that you alter or stop your medications in any way. We can only trade information here but, we do advocate that everyone educate themselves on all their personal health issues fully. Moderator.
