I went through this about 8 months ago and was put on medication to help, but for 3 months I have been trying to avoid the medicine and use a good multivitamin and flax oil and garlic pills, I was doing good then a little stress and here I go again.I am also on an antidepressant that I will soon be trying to be free from. What also will help lower my cholesterol? Guest guest
Dear , There are quite a few nutrients or herbs that can be used for temporary relief of anxiety. But any real solution is more than just taking a pill whether it is a nutrient or an herb, etc. To normalize any health issue including any " mental " issues usually requires more. All health problems require that the person takes in the 50+ essential nutrients, in sufficient quantities required for health and repair, live food that contain enzymes, fiber, many things to numerous to list, etc. Good protein sources. good fats etc. For long term, to have a good functiong nervous system it usually requires a complete nutritional approach. This would require a good diet, the use of supplements to balance any deficiencies and identify extra individual nutritional needs unique to you (individual B vitamins, oils are usual possibilities), exercise etc. In your message you didn't say what medicines you have used. Sometimes after using these meds, the imbalance is even greater and then the " problem " seems to have become larger. So, it can also be a rebound effect from the meds or in long term use even damage from the meds. Illness can also be the result of other chemicals taken in from the enviornment, foods, etc. are another possibility. If so they have to be detoxed from the body etc. So you see your question could be very complex when it seemed like you were asking for a one shot fixes all type answer. There really is a one shot answer though. From all indications from what I have read, If you will educate yourself on nutrition and natural health and do the things that I mentioned above you can achieve health in almost all the areas of your life. If you will notice, most of the health issues here and the possible solutions are all quite similiar. They revolve around the intake of sufficient nutrients to correct and heal and the taking out of toxic poisons from the system. In most instances, the body will heal and regulate itself much better than we or the doctors could possiblly second guess. We try to identify our own needs and some patterns in which some symptoms can be associated with some deficiencies. I suggest that you do a search on topics like antidepressents, depression, anxiety, etc. on our past messages. They can be found here. Gettingwell/messages Also the links section has a large group of links to look up specific subjects or to begin a self education. it can be found here. Gettingwell/links Maybe not you, but most people want a quick fix. Just take a pill and it is cured. That is usually not the case whether the person uses pharmacuetical drugs or nutrients. The drugs usually aleviate a symptom but do not address the underlying problem. The nutrient approach requires all of the nutrients essential to health because they work synergystically together. Although this might not be what you wanted for an answer it might be helpful as a starting point to further self education and a healthy future. regards, Frank Gettingwell , " toy87fish <toy87fish> " <toy87fish> wrote: > Didnt get any response on help for relieving anxiety, what will calm > my nerves down, it seems that any change in my life cause my nervous > system to go wild. Guest guest
You could get familiar with the search engine on the main page. There is information we discussed in the past but I find some problems finding the posts I am looking for. With my experience " anxiety " can be caused by the lack of just about anything in the body. I had a neighbor years ago tell me that she felt like she was having a nervous breakdown. I asked her if she went to see her doctor first to run full bloodwork? She said, no, but she would. Next week she thanked me because she found out that she was diabetic. So if you hadn't had recent blood work done, do so. Blood sugar was her issue. With me I was on antidepressants for 5 years and still feeling anxiety. Found out there was an imbalance in my estrogen and progesterone levels, a little low thyroid, it was treated and I felt good. Low mineral levels especially in calcium and magnesium can cause unsettled feelings. I found taking the form of citrate better than the carbonate. Taurine has helped me too, it is a sulpher amino acid. There are a few more but this one works great for me. Sometimes general anxiety comes back now and then and I take this. One thing you must be very conserned about is trying just any kind of amino acid while you are on antidepressant. Don't do it because many work in the same way that your medication is. You can overdose on something. I know it is hard but it is best to find a doctor that could help you with natural methods. I haven't found one yet. Must take a B-complex with B6 included in it. I found when I took Taurine I could take 1, 3 times a day for about a week. Soon I only took 1 a day, this about for 2 months and I didn't have to take anymore for quite awhile. I took the Taurine while I was on my antidepressant and I felt very good, that is why I got off of it right away and at the same time I had my hormonal blood testing in the wait. Occassonaly I get very mild depression and I am suffering with some kind of facial neuralgia. I am looking into other forms of natural methods. I think when I find out what I need to stop the inflammation I will possibly find the end to this mild depression. Frank, I am very interested in the post about B6 helping neuralgia. I found a vitamin supplement that has 100 mg in it along with the rest of the B family. I'll try that first. Liz D. Guest guest
When you feel things speeding up, try looking at your breath. Are you breathing using your chest? Chest breathing will kick in your sympathetic nervous system; autonomic nerves that influence body functions involuntarily during times of stress. By that I mean what some people call " fight or flight " . We're talking annoying things like your blood pressure going up and digestion coming to a stand still. If you can focus your inhales deep down to your abdominal region you can turn on your parasympathetic nerous system which will involuntary slow down your heart rate, lower blood pressure, and generally " chill out " . Also, try to stretch your exhales out longer than your inhales. If you inhale to the count of 5, exhale to the count or 6 or 7. I know its hard to think of this when all hell breaks loose but with practice when hell isn't breaking loose it can be done. My suggestion is that you first start practicing when you go to bed for the night. Another good time to practice is before you start your car to drive anywhere. All you'd need to make the practice a good session is a minute or two minimum. Afford yourself a minute. If you want breathing exersizes beyond that, look into _pranayama_.
