Guest guest
I am new to this group but I am just wondering if anyone knows of any help for a cough. I think I have a touch of bronchitis....I'm not sure. I have a cough that keeps me awake at night. I am on garlic, vitamin C. Has anyone tried fenegreek and thyme for congestion and coughing? How about Kang Jang? Or do you have any ideas of what I can try? My head also feels like it has mucus as my ears keep plugging up. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you have to offer. Guest guest
If your cough and plugged ears are due to mucus perhaps a _neti pot_ might give you some comfort. A neti pot is a ceramic pot that resembles a small " Aladin's lamp " . You can usually find it where ever they sell yoga supplies (mats, straps, books, CDs). I bought mine at a health food store. I think it cost between $14. - $18. Its lasted me for years. People who do yoga use the neti pot to help clean out their nasal passages before doing special breathing exersizes. It is said that if one does it on a regular basis the practice will clean, strengthen and moisturize the nasal passages. My husband has found it particularly helpful when his sinuses feel blocked with mucus that acts more like cement. What you do with it is fill the thing with warm water and a little bit of salt (make that salt without any additives ;-) making a solution not too unlike your tears. If the water is warm, you have enough salt in the solution, and you breath through the mouth you should have little or no discomfort. Small children will want to do the process on their own after experiencing its benefits. Hold your face sideways over the sink and pour the warm water from the neti pot into the upper nostril while breathing through the mouth. The water will flow out the lower nostril. While it flows out it will encourage the mucus stashed in the sinuses to follow with it by capillary action. After a while of doing this, feel free to stand straight and blow your nose. Next, try using the neti pot in the other nostil (remembering again to breath through your mouth) and finishing again with standing straight and blowing your nose. I've found that even if I feel no need to blow my nose before using the neti pot, when it comes time to blow my nose after using it all sorts of stuff comes out. I particularly like to do the neti pot after cleaning the dusty garage or basement. Once, during a very evil head cold, it was suggested to me by a yogi that I could put a very small drop of tea tree oil in the water instead of the salt. Up until that point in time I had no idea that there could ever be a possibility of my 5 foot 1 inch body banging the top part of my head on the ceiling. I think it is best practice to stick to salt in the warm water. Penel > I am new to this group but I am just wondering if anyone knows of any > help for a cough.
