This is nothing to be embarrassed about. HPV is called human papillovirus and once you have it, you will always have it. Men dont usually have many symptoms unless they have a lesion around their genitals. Women are the ones with the problems. It is transferred from one to the other and can cause a woman to have cancer of the cervix. I work in OBGYN and that's one way we can tell if a womans husband is fooling around, her pap will come back with atypical cells, then we do hpv typing and voila'.

yes, its also called genital warts. unfortunately, that's the stigma.

HPV has a latent phase. example, one could have their first sexual experience at age 20 and be exposed. The virus can remain in the body for an undeterminate amount of time before rearing its ugly head in the form of a lesion, or atypical cells on a pap smear. I've seen little old ladies with cervical cancer from HPV and their husbands have been dead for years.

I realize this is not the best news, however there are some excellent ways of controlling it. There is this new treatment called Aldara that actually enhances your own immune system so that it attacks it. there has to be a lesion though.

its truly a wonderful thing though.
