Some say that the stinging bristles are on the whole plant and others say that they are only on the stem. I just got some nettle and it definitely has the stinging bristles on the stem but I can touch the leaves and there are no stinging bristles on them so I am not sure of what I have. Is this stinging nettle? This plant looks so much like stinging nettle that I once saw years ago that I wonder if perhaps the stinging bristles appear only later in the season. However, there are different varieties of Nettles out there so it is possible. The only ones I am familiar with have the stinging hairs on stems only. Even a tiny leaf from a sprout will cause a very unpleasant reaction to me. However, once they are wilted they no longer sting me. I use them quite a bit as mineral supplements for the dogs and birds and in hair rinse. Roxanne Roxanne J.
