Marcia- Are you simply looking for wild edible plants or herbal plants? Just because a plant is edible does not mean it is good to consume on a regular basis. Even knowlegable herbalists admit they have made mistakes in identifying plants. Some mistakes can be deadly...... I'm not trying to scare you, but I want you to be aware that while there is a BUNCH of edible stuff out there, some of it has to be prepared properly or it can kill. Take the Poke plant. The young leaves have to be cooked and drained and cooked and drained,(twice) to get the toxic part out. Many recipes have you add other things to it, but all say it tastes great and is good to eat. But don't touch the root of the Poke. It is for serious medicine and it stung my hands last year when pulling some up for a friend. I felt downright ill, and it was just from handling the roots. I will be making a tincture of the root for medicinal purposes later and not thrilled about doing so. HERE ARE SOME WEBSITES FOR YOU ALL TO START WITH-----

http://www.ediblewild.com/

http://www.edibleplants.com/ (this has edible plant of the month etc)

http://www.wildfoodadventures.com/ (might make a nice vacation with the kids)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/039531870X/102-2909243-6980900 Field guide book for edible wild plants on Amazon.com

Above all, go to the library and check out all the books about edible wild plants, go to the book store and look at them all also, and you will find books that you will keep forever and constantly go back to. Wild plants are amazing.

hugs, Elaine
