maple and other leaves

OK this may seem like a strange question but here goes.

 

Can anyone tell me if maple leaves are edible? I dont care about any

healing prperties or anyhting (although if there are any I'd like to know!)

My boys (5 and 3) area BEGGING to be able to make a salad of maple leaves

and mint and grass :oP anyay, I want to know if it is ok before I tell

them it is ok.

 

Any other edible leaves you know of are good too! I had a book once saying

what was and wasn't but haven't seen it in about 12 years :oP

 

I live in Maine (northern new england) ANY info would be great ! )
