I have heard before that comfrey is an herb that shouldn't be taken

internally. On Saturday someone gave some of the leaves and said I

could us small amounts of it in a salad, or I could use it in a tea.

She also cave me some stalks and said I could plant them and see if

they would grow. Since they don't have any roots do I have to get

them to sprout first before I plant them. Back to the first part of

my question is it safe to eat the leaves in a salad or to make tea

with them. Please let me know. Thank you!

Comfrey is safe internally if you don't use too much. Haven't heard of people

using it as a salad herb, though.

There have been a few incidents over the years with people overdosing on this.

It takes quite a bit to do that, like about 10 cups of tea in a day or something

on that order. Generally with comfrey it's best used internally in a mild tea

-- never boil it -- and only every couple of days.

External use of comfrey is completely safe.

Comfrey helps bones knit when they're broken, can have a good effect on torn

ligaments, and also helps to combat infections. However, there are many other

herbs better at fighting infection.
