Guest guest
Just found this recipe and plan to begin making it this week. Thought I'd share it in case anyone else wants to try it. Elaine This is a healthier alternative to diet drinks and diet colas, not to mention helping shed unwanted pounds from around the thighs and hips in particular. Needed: 4 quarts nettle greens 2 gallons water 2 thinly sliced lemons 3 thinly sliced limes 2 ounces grated fresh ginger root 1/2 tsp powdered nutmeg 1/4 tsp powdered mace 2 cups light brown sugar 1 cake active yeast. Boil the first four ingredients gently in alarge open kettle or big pot for 50 minutes. Strain through 4 layers of cheesecloth before adding sugar. Cool to lukewarm. Dissolve the yeast in 2 cups of this ale liquid, then stir in the remaining ale. Bottle in quart fruit jars or clean gallon jars with narrow spouts. Let stand for one week in a cool place. Refrigerate 15 hours before drinking. Recipe as found in Heinerman's Encyclopedia of Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs
