Guest guest
This is one of many stories I have read about that its not healthy to be strict vegan/raw foodist in the long run....... Thats why I am happy to know that Doc recommend eating from animal stuff too. Eggs, organic meat, etc. etc. ============================= HEALTH QUICKIES ============================= Only room for one Health Quickie today, and it's sure a sad one, another disturbing instance that tragically reveals the deficiencies of strict vegan and raw food diets for nursing mothers, expectant mothers, babies, and children. Those following the evidence about babies and children being injured by strict vegan and raw food diets must read and learn from the latest horror story, which was sent to me by Suz: VEGETARIANS FACE CHILD ABUSE CHARGE By Stephanie Gaskell Associated Press Writer Tuesday, April 30, 2002; 7:50 AM NEW YORK (AP) - A couple who put their baby daughter on a strict vegetarian diet were charged with child endangerment after authorities found the girl last year weighing only half her normal weight, prosecutors said. Joseph and Silva Swinton, both 31, were charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. Both pleaded innocent Friday. Prosecutors said the baby was fed ground nuts, fresh- squeezed juices, herbal tea, beans, cod liver oil and flax seed oil. She was not breast-fed or given infant formulas. Authorities were alerted to the situation by an anonymous call in November, said Maris Campbell, a spokeswoman for the district attorney. She said the baby was " in grave risk of death. " " She weighed only 10 pounds, less than half the weight of an average 16-month-old female child, and appeared to be the size of a 2- to 3-month-old baby, " District Attorney Richard Brown said Monday. You can review the whole story at http://chetday.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?article where you'll also read that the child wasn't breast-fed, which appears to happen with alarming frequency to raw food and strict vegan mothers who often aren't able to produce sufficient or quality milk due to the deficiencies in their own diets. I don't enjoy sharing this kind of report, but if you or someone you love continues to buy into the false claims that strict veganism is healthy or even an adequate diet for babies and children, I hope you'll email them the above story, which is only the latest instance of innocent and helpless babies and children who are being injured by the dietary fanaticism of their parents and the gurus they so blindly follow. Thanks to Suz for sending me this story.
