On one of my horse sites, someone is having a weight problem with a

mare. I suggested some of the ulcer meds available, and also to try

Aloe Vera Juice. She wrote back and said that you could not give aloe

to a pregnant mare (or person either) because it was a purgative and

would cause a miscarrage. Is this true? I don't recall reading

anything about not taking it while pregnant. I thought purgatives

were just heavy laxatives.

No equine knowledge here, but I'm pretty sure it's emmenagogues, not

purgatives, that cause miscarriages. I don't *think* aloe is an

emmenagogue, but you might want to look that up.
