Guest guest
Hi! I'm Cathy and I'm new to the group. I just wanted to introduce myself. I really don't know alot about herbal remedies, but I am trying to learn. I have had incapacitating pain for the past two years. It started about 7 months after I gave birth to my only child, and was felt to be nerve damage due to giving birth. I am a physical therapist (unable to work due to this though)in which PT did not (some things helped, some aggravated) cure my problem. I feel I may have endometriosis. I have been recently trying to read books on herbal medicine and other naturopathic treatments. I'm trying to now start eating organic foods. I quit meat (except for fish) 3 weeks ago and have cut down on dairy products. I am awaiting to see a specialist in this condition to see if I actually have it. Currently, there are 2 major thoughts on treatment: meds and surgery. I am frightened by both, but may agree to undergo the laporascopic surgery (it is the only way to diagnose this condition - plus, I think I have adhesions). But, surgery alone is not enough per Western Med thinking - you probably need the meds too. I have made up my mind that I DO NOT want these meds - the side effects can be horrid and I will not risk this. I am looking instead to make a lifestyle change, and to use alternative remedies. Can anyone help me in this area? I hope I did not mention anything I wasn't supposed to per the guidelines. Thanks so much, Cathy M.
Guest guest
Hi Cathy! My name is Sara. I had surgery to remove a tube/ovary almost a year ago and I'm dealing with pain myself, which may be due to adhesions. I'm so sorry to hear you can't work because of your pain; and I wish I could tell you something immediately useful, but I'm still in the research-phase myself (actually, I'm waiting for my 'second opinion'). One thing that I decided I was definitely going to try once I've seen the other MD and made sure there are no big problems that the first one overlooked is Reiki. Reiki's not normally the sort of thing I'd go for, but I've had many people (including several nurses) swear to me it works wonders, and from what I've read and the people I've asked, it's excellent at healing things of a 'blockage' or 'misalignment' nature. Anyway, you can get buttloads of info on that at http://www.Reiki.org ; but I sincerely hope you find the answers here you're looking for. Doc is awesome, and this group is the best! (Woah...mental note for Sara: You have a *lot* of energy after that first cup of coffee...!) -ST On Tue, 16 Apr 2002 01:39:46 -0000 " cuppa_pt " wrote: > Hi! I'm Cathy and I'm new to the group. Guest guest
Sarah, Thanks so much for replying. Did you need to undergo surgery for endometriosis? I'm sorry you still have pain. For me, the not working part was *so hard* to let go of...I was so into my career. But, (even though I NEED to work financially - blessed w/ wonderful family and friends who are helping us) it may have been the best thing for me. I've " un-wound " (does that make sense?) so much. I really think this whole thing is some kind of message that I need to change my life priorities - who knows I guess? Thank you for the Reike idea - I've read up on it a little when this started, but never pursued it. Right now I'm trying to gear up for a detoxification cleanse. I bought the " Linda Page " book and I'm trying to figure out how to get organic veggies for the juicing. I can find some, but not all. I'm thinking of ordering them from the internet...has anyone purchased organic fruits/veggies this way? I will check out the Reiki web site. Thank you so much and please keep me posted on your situation too. You cracked me up about your coffee (lol) Cathy <snipped> -- In herbal remedies, tv_is_a_drug@b... wrote: >... Guest guest
Hi Cathy: No, my surgery was for an ovarian cyst I didn't know I had! The sucker was inside the ovary, and when it ruptured it really messed with my guts. I'm still trying to heal completely from the episode; they think I might have adhesions (scar tissue problems) from all the blood I lost internally. Ah, fun. I have known people with endo before though, and you have my utmost sympathy for what sounds like a very not-fun thing to deal with! Best of luck to you with it; I'm sure the excellent folks on this list will be able to give you some great herbal and nutritional suggestions. As to not working, I think you're right, and I admire your ability to realize even in the middle of a trial like this that it may be a message about your lifestyle, and painful though it is, it may work out to be a positive thing that's happened to you. I'm young and yet I'm realizing quickly that stress causes a lot more problems than we give it credit for--I always thought " stress " was something that happened to, ahem, old people when they'd worn themselves too thin doing the same thing for decades on end...now I realize that stress on your body has real and immediate effects which, if we pay attention to them, can help us greatly in making long-term decisions about what we should be doing. My six weeks off work--which almost drove me crazy at first--were so good for me mentally, in the end, that I decided I'd persue an at-home career the second I can afford to. It's something I'd never even considered before, really; but I was vastly more relaxed, happier and more productive when I was at home...! Go figure. Anyway, thanks for the reply and take care of yourself! --Sara T. On Wed, 17 Apr 2002 15:28:44 -0000 " cuppa_pt " wrote: > Sarah, > Thanks so much for replying.
