<<<<A Shih Tzu HAS to be groomed for health reasons.Hair grows in the earcanal and if not plucked, can go deaf !Also sever back and leg problemsif hair between pads are not trimmed all the way back. Hair in eyesalso. All this happens in a perio of 4 weeks ! I never saw anything growso fast in my life LOL!We are down to ONE more groomer! He has bitten all of the groomers! Bigtime! She will give him ONE more chance! The vet gave him a heavy duty pillthat knocked him out for 2 days and they still couldn't groom him. Ineed to know what I can give him to let the groomer do what she has todo. HELP!!!!!!! I have started him on Bach Rescue Remedy, but it is notenough.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

This may not be an issue of how heavily the dog can be sedated. Your friend may want to try a visit to the groomer with her dog the day before the grooming. Let the dog get aquatinted with the groomer while mom is around and without the groomer ripping hair out of her ears! A fun visit with lots of petting and treats. Then the next day (day of grooming) maybe mom can chaperon the Shih tzu. This might ease her stress.

It sounds like one of the groomers may have been very rough with her and now she get scared .

My only suggestion with the data you've given, would be to take him to a good holistic vet (yes they are around ;o)

I know that Chemo therapy will remove hair but I think that approach would be a little extreme LOL.

Is there something similar to Nair that would be save for

the dog? Could Nair be diluted down or used for less time?

I wonder if a vet would know.... hahaha

just an " outside the box " idea.....

I agree with Bea. For a dog to be like you discribed, something traumatic might have happened while at the groomers. If worse comes to worse could you switch groomers?

How is the groomer with the dog? Does the dog originally like the groomer or is it leary of strangers? How is the dog around strangers in general? Better with men or women? Can you stay with the dog while it gets groomed? Last resort is to learn how to do this yourself. My mom and dad learned when we had poodles. She would sit with the dog laying down and use tweezers and pull little bits of hair out of the ears, allthe while talking to the dogs, calming them - after awhile it was no big deal - but they trusted mom and dad.
