Can anyone tell me why (or if) distilled water is the 'best' to

drink. Or is that a marketing ploy and filtered water will do just

fine. I live in a hard water area.

Distilled water is ok for a quick cleans but not for

long term use it pulles minerals from your body. I

feel sorry for you hard water but the fillterd water

is best if it only removes the iron so the water is

beter tasting and good for laundryPeg

Janice, IMHO distilled water is the best because it is simple pure. One

function of water is to carry waste away. The more contaminated - saturated

with body waste - the less it can carry.

And if the water is contaminated going in the body has to process that as

well. Possible contaminations _Not Checked For_ in our water supply are

pharmacuels like prescribed drugs and street drugs. Remember out liver

detox's our body of poisons through urination.

I disagree with those that say " pulles minerals from your body " like would

drinking mud be better? The body self regulates, homestasasis, Sidium /

potasium balance

Drinking 1/2 of your body weight in ounces of pure water is healthy

You can disagree as much as you want. Lots of people have had

problems with distilled water on long term. Some of them started to

loose alot of hair on head. And they was healthy people, vegetarians.

The hair loss stopped when they began to put concentrated mineral

water in the distilled water. I know there is concentrated mineral

water to buy. I have myself one of those. Desert lake water

concentrate, with extra magnesium.

LOL, I have to say this. Drinking mud *is actually better*.

Especially if it is green clay/bentonite clay. Very nice detoxifying

agent :)

I was told I would get booted of this list if I

missled some new member and you are telling a person

distilled water is the best for them.

His Quote: " I disagree with those that say " pulles

The best water for a person is the stuff that runs of

the top of a mountain but we can't get it so we do the

slure about mud was out of place the woman said she

Hi,

According to Dr. Norman Walker, a nutritionist of over 70 years,

in his book, " Water can undermine your health " , he states that all

mineral and chemical elements in water when reaching the liver are

either passed on into the bloodstream or filed away as reserve

material. He says that distilled water does not leach out body

minerals, it collects and removes minerals which have been rejected

by the cells of the body and are therefore more or less debris,

obstructing normal functions of the system. He goes further than this

but this is basically his view.

Just quoting what I have read, everyone has to decide for themselves

what is right for them.

As one who tends to be in the " pulls minerals from the body " camp, i've seen

this debate way too many times.

What we really need is some hard evidence. Really, are there any studies

out there? I do know that some studies released to the national media have

shown that there is a reduced incidence of heart disease among people living

in communities with highly mineralized water. So that would seem to point

towards my side.

I also have come to believe that perhaps mineral balance could be kept with

proper supplementation if someone is using distilled water. But even rain

water is slightly mineralized and, more importantly, carries at least two

electrical-type charges. From European studies i've seen, it looks like

those charges are even more important than water mineralization. So the key

word is " perhaps " . What would be of most benefit at this point, is broad

population studies showing whether or not distilled water causes any harm.

Next most useful would be anecdotes from people who have run across this in

individual cases.

Dear Janice,

Welllllllllllllllll, I wished I'd been on list and seen this one before it turned into such a debate. ;o)

I have done extensive research into this subject, and distilled water is by far the best way to drink your water, or to use with your teas, etc. Distilled water has been maligned (especially by the "Alkaline" water boys), with claims of mineral loss etc. etc. This is simply not true to any extent that you need to be worried about it. A few grains of Celtic Sea Salt or eating a healthy organic meal, would replace any organic minerals lost by taking distilled water. As a matter of fact, distilled water is essential for flushing out "inorganic" minerals out of your body and bringing about a state of homeostasis within the body.

I have hundreds and hundreds of patients and I've put every single one of them on distilled water with absolutely NO adverse effects whatsoever. None. Nada. Nyet. Only good effects.

If you check back "Messages" from about a year ago, you'll see where this debate already happened and there were some great research referrences posted at that time.

Distilled water? It doesn't get any better. I recommend to everyone that they get their own distillery. Everyone!!!

Love,

Doc

Good points Ed, but please refrain from using your URL in your signature line. Per list policies there is to be no advertising on list whatsoever. I appreciate having one more professional herbalist on list but this policy is written in stone as far as I'm concerned. One of the purposes of the list is the FREE dissemination of True Naturopathic data. MLM's, advertising of one's wares, etc. are simply not welcome.

Dear Mar,

There are many factors which could contribute to the effects you've mentioned including "vegetarianism" as you mentioned below. I beat no drum for veganism and in actuality, very few people can exist naturally as pure vegetarians (vegans), though all body cleansing is enhanced by doing it for short periods of time. Whenever I put someone through a cleanse, they do it vegan all the way. Not because there is anything wrong with ORGANIC MEATS, but only because one's body should be focussing on "HEALING" during cleansing, and not on digestion. Proteins are harder and take longer to digest than other food forms.

Dr. Bernard Jensen once investigated the five longest lived peoples on Earth. People who lived well past 120 or so. Every one of these peoples were meat eaters. Just remember, the meat they ate was ORGANIC!!!!!!! Not "All Natural" or "Range Free" or any other such false or misleading label.

Dear Peg,

Who told you that nonsense about being booted off list for misleading a new member??? I've never done so, and being List Cop is one of the hats that I wear, though I have help from others in this respect.

Usually, there are enough well-informed herbalists on list to correct any misleading statements, and I jump in only when I have to, or when there is a discrepency between professionals to settle a point once and for all.

In Ed's case, he is absolutely correct. Distilled water is best.

See my earlier post on this.

Good research Cathy. Norman Walker along with Dr. Bernard Jensen among many other scientists including Alexander Graham Bell and Edison, were very strong advocates of distilled water.

Of course many only remember Norman Walker as the "King of Juicing". :o)

Sorry Peg, but not so. Too much calcium hard water gives you way too much inorganic calcium which can lead to arthritis among other problems.

Thanks Doc - apologies for the big debate from my question but

perhaps the differing answers help us all in some way and hopefully

others have learnt. Now I have to decide how I am going to get this

water. Any ideas on that - buy a 'machine' or can it be bought bottled

I'm sure somebody will come up with something more sophisticated, but

this is how I made distilled water when I had to do a bit of 'home

operation' and needed really clean water:

Take a big pot with a lid. Fill it with just about any old water (it

doesn't have to be filtered even, that I know of, since the distillation

process will remove anything that filtering would and more). Find a way

to suspend a small glass or metal bowl or large cup inside the pot

(upright--a coathanger, cleverly bent, works great). Make sure you can

still put a lid on the pot fairly tightly. Now, boil the water. As it

evaporates, it'll condense on the pot lid (which, obviously, should be

very clean) and drip into the bowl/cup. Bingo--distilled water.

Also, I don't know where exactly, but I'm positive the 'Net holds

information on building a home distillery, though they can be kind of

bulky if you want any real volume out of them. Many of them involve

double- and triple-distilling the water, but all I can really say is

this: NOTHING tastes as good as distilled water!!

*lolol* See ya,

Sara T.

Dear Janice,

No problem.

About 3 years ago, I bought a simple machine from Sears (called a Kenmore of course ;o), with ALL Stainless Steel guts, which at times I've had going 24 hours a day for seven days a week. It's very easy to clean, has been beat up six ways till Sunday, and just keeps going. At the time, I think I paid approx $80, but that was on sale. I think they're back up to around $140 now, but it's still worth it. I mean, this baby just keeps producing ;o)

Love,

Doc

Thanks Doc - apologies for the big debate from my question but perhaps the differing answers help us all in some way and hopefully others have learnt. Now I have to decide how I am going to get this water. Any ideas on that - buy a 'machine' or can it be bought bottledJanice

Thanks Doc - I shall keep my eyes open for adverts in UK magazines.

Even tho machine may be cheaper in the States the postage would bump

it up

Absolutely. Keep your eyes peeled and you should find one ;o) Every household should have a distiller nowadays.
