Bad food is part of the problem. But as a working teacher, i know that two

other factors are huge in creating this problem. One is a general fear of

letting children go outdoors, mainly due to sensationalization of a very few

rare kidnapping cases. The other is the prevalence of video games, which

mean that nobody has to go outdoors to play any more.

 

One of my most able computer students is also one of the most obese in the

whole school.

 

When i did a lot of travelling from 1989 through 1998, i noticed large areas

of the country where you would never see a child playing outside. It got

worse as the years went by.
