Guest guest
Antibiotics is not the worst part in the meat supply in the store, it is the hormones. The milk is also loaded with these hormones. I have been doing a lot of research on this and have tried to totally elliminate dairy out of my diet completely and limit my meat. Pesticides is also a big issue therefore organic is always best. You should read what they feed the animals that our meat comes from that is in the stores. It sort of turns you off on meat. Also the stuff that comes in a box is so refined it is useless as far as nutrition goes. I am trying to go whole grain as much as possible. The only box cereal I buy is malt-o-meal and it is still not as good as the whole grain. Whole grain breads have a better flavor also. Hubby is having trouble with all the fiber so I am having to mix my breads with half whole grain and half white flour for now. I heard some complaints at Christmas about the wholewheat cookies also, I just told them I was trying to make them healthier. I am glad to see some else that is concerned about our food supply. Obesity and diabetes is an epidemic in this country, maybe if people were more concerned about good nutrition we would see better food on the store shelves. The stores only sell what people buy, if they didn't buy it they wouldn't sell it. Martha --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
I haven't gone back and read the posts related to this (sorry, I'm working backwards today, trying to catch up), but I wanted to add my two cents too. We drink raw goat's milk here, and we have been for years. When we started drinking goat's milk only, I wasn't surprised at how our health here just seemed better. During our dry spells, I will purchase organic cow's milk or get raw from a friend. We don't over-do dairy, or anything if we can help it. As I read in the last post, yes, our food has too many hormones, antibiotics, etc in them. And our grocery stores sell junk. As soon as our grocery stores sell organic anything, I buy it. I buy from the local organic farmers. If we can get people to support those products life would be better, wouldn't it? I know I am amazed at the obese children everywhere. It is sad. Education from folks like on this list, to friends who just fall into the fast food life is a start. I know sometimes its like swimming upstream in raging white water. I will give my free range chicken eggs to people and they bulk at the idea. The eggs look different, they taste different, can they be bad? Ugh, if they only knew mine were 24 hours old and the grocery stores can be 9 months old. Thanks for letting me add on! And I know, writing this here is redundant, isn't it? =)

I have wanted to try goat's milk with my family ever since I was pregnant with my children, but I've had no clue on how to find it. Would it be something to call around about at local farmers? I am slowly bringing a soy beverage in my house to replace milk, so far no one has noticed Still, I am interested in how to make contacts to find goat's milk and other products. nortina
Guest guest
Hello, I understand that pasteurized milk of any kind is extremely detrimental, even though i do use it sparingly. How does one go about getting raw milk, which i believe is illegal in many places? Also, how do you cut the risk of infectious diseases passed on by raw milk? Guest guest
There are farms that will do an honor system to 'sell' raw milk. I know that I have sold it for animal use, since goat's milk is the best all around milk for replacing 'mother's milk'. I have had deer bottle fed on it, a newborn horse in which the mare abandoned the baby, puppies and human babies (some Amish friends who needed milk asap). Some health food stores may know of someone who has raw milk. Yes, it is illegal to sell raw milk, I know that states vary, but not much. I know at least one state makes you dye it for animal or craft use. I would check the law for the state that you live in. As for disease, well that depends on the herd and farm. Micro organisms grow quickly in raw milk, we have fresh milk every day, but I never drink the milk if it is three days old. Older milk gets made into cheese or fed to the animals. All of our equipment is cleaned, the goats are healthy and tested regularly. I worm them, and then do milk withdrawal for longer than the recommended time. In fact, I just wormed all of our goats, lambs, and horses this morning. Chickens I did last week. Good luck =) Lynne > How does one go about getting raw milk, >which i believe is illegal in many places? Also, how >do you cut the risk of infectious diseases passed on >by raw milk?
