Guest guest
Thanks for the input, but....it seems that " finding the culprit " is the real problem, IF it is indeed " allergies " that are causing it. I got prescription for Claritin & have used it 2 days. It is a " 1 every 24hr. " pill & 23 hr. after the first one I had the same symptoms all over. Was sitting quietly watching T.V & my pulse shot up [literally felt the jump in my chest] & stayed there for over 1/2 hr...scared me to death. Took some Valerian & did deep breathing meditation then took the 2nd. pill. Gradually everything returned to normal. So, was the medicine " running out early " ? or is the cause not allergies at all? I have gone through diet & oddly enough the only " new " thing I am ingesting is Doc's " Total Nutrition Formula " . Surely, it can't be that...but just in case I discontinued it after the first episode. I also live within 5 miles of a phosphate plant, a gypsum board plant & Tampa Electric's main power plant! Not to mention all the normal pollens in the air at this time of year! Oy vey! It amazes me that I have NO sneezing, runny nose, hives, itching, watery eyes, etc...what I always assumed were symptoms of alleries. As much as I hate to do it, guess I'll have to see an Allergist to pin this down. Quite frankly I have had it up to " here " with the whole bunch of them! It is great having access & information available for Alternamtive & Integrative choices...BUT it is necessary to have a correct diagnosis first! Many thanks, r3g
Guest guest
Sounds like you might do better on the other side of Tampa. Some parts of that city are much less polluted. It's impossible to say what was going on with the Claritin without a physical exam. Wish there were more doctors out there who could do that. There is another type of Allergist called " Clinical Ecologist " . If you have one in your area, might be a good idea to check out that line. These doctors are thoroughly disliked by many M.D.s, which is a good recommendation in itself. They tend to look more broadly at environmental factors as part of their approach. Be careful with Allergists. Turns out many of the test substances they use for diagnosis contain Phenol, a chemical which itself can often cause heavy reactions. Ask if you can have the Phenol-free kits. If the allergist puts you off, says that's impossible, or puts you down for asking, leave the office immediately. That's a fairly good line of distinction between good and bad allergists. Also i've heard of a couple doctors in Clearwater who are supposed to be very good, worth driving across the bay for. Guest guest
Hi Michael, Thanks for the information...but!!! Ended up back in emergency room yesterday. Ringing in ear, blood in eye, bad pain on left side of head. Had taken 3 doses of the Claritin up to that point. Another CAT scan done & different neurologist [of course!] said it had nothing to do with allergies. He believes it is siezure activity, tied to a " lucency " that he believes is scar tissue from old meningisma infection. I took Dilantin [for 18 yrs] for severe siezure episode that occured 24 yrs. ago. Have been off of it with no problems for 6 yrs. Don't know why/what caused this newest activity. He sent me home from E.R with new anti-convulsant " Trileptal " & I have appointment with my old Neurologist to re-evaluate all tests. Sure hope this is a correct diagnosis, although not happy with it at all! Just want to know what is happening! BTW, would love to move from this area if I could! Thanks again, r3g herbal remedies, Michael Riversong <rivedu@e...> wrote: > Sounds like you might do better on the other side of Tampa. Guest guest
Wish they knew how Dilantin actually works. The fact that they don't, sets up situations like this. Oh well, it's even worse with Tegritol & Depakote. This situation is also a good model for all of us to consider. I responded to information in the original post that indicated possible allergies. But i didn't have a clue about the possible scar tissue in the nervous system. That makes a huge difference, and opens up a lot more diagnostic territory. Yet in email, or in most doctor's offices, there simply isn't enough time to give out all the information that may be relevant in a particular case. Now i gotta go look up Trileptal. I'm not very optimistic about it, though. What people mostly don't know, is that all these drugs are proven on rats. They figure out what's going on by killing the critters at various stages after they're drugged, and then they hope that our brains work more or less the same way. A few psychiatrists have sincerely lamented that there's no way they can do this to humans in most countries. Since we're not rat-brains (well most of us anyway) the errors in this process are frequent and sometimes fatal. Human trial protocols really aren't all that good -- nobody can build in enough co-factors, and you will notice that the outcomes are never 100%, and are often not even really much over 50%. And the whole design is set up on the premise that you must lie to a certain number of the test subjects in order to do the study in the first place, which violates the basic ethics of most religions. In summer 1998, as my life was falling apart (again) i did extensive research on the most important psychiatric drug research papers of that year. I think the turbulence from studying this material made me more upset, and acellerated the process of ruin. So be really careful when studying the lies and half-truths that psychiatrists typically put out as research papers. Even good neurologists get fooled sometimes. Out of 21 papers, only one even briefly admitted to the problem of trying to assume that humans are a lot like rats. When you necessarily fall into the hands of neurologists, you're taking great risks regarding how well they understand the material they have to work with. And if you fall into the hands of psychiatrists, that's unnecessary and, now that you've read this post, you have no excuse for even giving one of them the time of day. Most psychiatrists never even examine their patients. That's why i have more respect for neurologists -- if they make mistakes, it's usually on the side of ordering too much examination. Of course like the rest of us they don't know how their drugs work either. Here's a thought -- if you ever meet a neurologist who claims to know the mechanism for any of the drugs i mentioned here, arrange to tape record his explanation, and send me the tape. I sincerely want to hear it. At 02:11 PM 3/19/02 -0000, you wrote: >Hi Michael, > >Thanks for the information...but!!! Ended up back in emergency room >yesterday.
