Guest guest
hello all, have an interesting question. My neighbor is 75 years old, and a diabetic and breast cancer survivor. She recently went in for blood work and her WBC (white blood count) came back a very low 3.1. She is on no new meds or herbs for the last 6 months or so and the only thing she is currently doing is soaking a toe with an ingrown toenail in Epsom salts and putting a Calendula and comfrey poultice on it - no broken skin. I have surfed the net and can only find low WBC connected to Chemotherapy and AIDS - neither one which is relevant in this case. can anyone tell me what could be the cause of this or what is the best way to build her white cells. thanks Patricia

Guest guest
I do know that the WBC can be elevated in cancer patients and will be lowered with chemo and radiation. She has been cancer free for 5 years now. This was her 5 year celebration checkup and everything looks great- she is in remarkable health for her age (75). The only thing that was out of whack was this low WBC - and it is pretty low for not being on chemo. She goes back into the Dr. for a test redo (mistakes happen) in 3 weeks but we were just wondering about something to try in the meantime. thanks for your time Patricia
Guest guest
Low WBC can also happen from chemical exposures. I'm surprised you didn't find something about that. Most potent chemical in that regard is benzene, which is a component of gasoline. I think my NIOSH guide would show many more which would do that, but unfortunately that's 25 miles away at the moment. Check out their web site. Guest guest
This may be way off base, but my girl friend had an exhaust leak in her car. She didn't know about it for ages (small leak). She had severe carbon monoxide poisoning from this - could this kind of thing cause a low white blood cell count? Just a thought, Janene "Low WBC can also happen from chemical exposures..." Guest guest
Not usually. Carbon monoxide (CO) wipes out red blood cells, not white. What it does, is to create permanent bonds to red blood cells. Each cell so affected becomes totally unable to take on oxygen. The body must wait until that cell dies, and a replacement goes into circulation, to regain that ability. Anyone who is a victim of CO must go on an iron-rich diet, have plenty of Vitamin E, and allow more rest time than usual. It can take 3 - 6 months to recover. Guest guest
Absolutely. WBC is directly connected with Chemo, AIDS, and Radiation treatment. I hate to sound like a broken record, but Panther Piss can also help dramatically with this as well. If I knew more about the case I might recommend other things, but the PP is a great place to start.
