Guest guest
Suzi, I know what you mean about not enough hours in a day. It seems like all I do is bottle feed babies and then milk the mama for next time. We are in Central Wisconsin, so it's still pretty cold here. Lynnette - Suzanne Nottmeier herbal remedies Tuesday, March 12, 2002 12:30 PM Re: [herbal remedies] Goats, Goats and more goats... Lynette, I am not milking as their is not enough hours in my day... They keep our acreage cleaned up. We have a mix....Mostly pygmy, with some togg, alpine and a couple fainter/angora cross.... we take on those that need help or are unwanted too. I think I'm up to 34 goats right now - gotta take a count and roll call....LOL. I'm about 30 - 40 minutes south of St. Louis, in Illinois - (Waterloo) It's dreary today, hopefully no more rain..... but it's probably 40-50 degrees. We've been on a roller coaster with weather the last month..... 0 - to 70 in days and back down again.
Guest guest
I've only got one "Billy" and one "Nan". Do you think I should separate them as she gets closer????? Suzi, Where do you live?? It would be such a blessing for us to get to 50 in the day time!! We're still struggling to get to 35. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has unexpected births (although you have many more goats than I do in general)!!! In the last three weeks we've had two premie births (both dead) so I know how it feels to think if you had just found it sooner you could have maybe helped it. What kind of goats do you have, it doesn't sound like you're milking yours.... that adds a whole new aspect to the adventure!! Sounds like you're having a great time! Guest guest
Depends on the billy. mine have had them out in the pasture with everyone... is the billy rough.. Once she has them definitely separate or at least I do to give the babies and mom peace and bonding. and no billy trying to take mom away. If you can tell she is really close you could separate them then. Suzi "Ian Shillington N.D." <Dr.IanShillington wrote: I've only got one "Billy" and one "Nan". Guest guest
Doc - yes please separate them before birth - you never know what will happen - when I had goats I had the greatest buck you could ever want he was so calm and gentle but when the does kidded he went crazy and tried to take all the kids away and raise them himself. It was cute and funny until I almost lost a couple as the kids tried to bond with him and not mom and they almost starved to death. Guest guest
One other thing I just thought of as I looked outside and it is starting to snow again. I know you are not where it is as cold but when the big event does happen be a sweetie and give Mom a bucket of warm water with some molasses and a touch of ACV in it. It will help her recover quicker. Just think of it as "Panther Piss" for the goats, and I guess this puts this thread back into the category of herbal remedies Patricia
Guest guest
Dear Pat, This is a Naturopathic list, and as such is holistic in its entirety. Natural healing is not limited to humans only, and no where in the list policies do discussions on health exclude goats. It is a well known fact that animals contribute greatly to the mental health of people as well as being a food source. I once helped an older women heal herself of a supposedly incurable disease (chronic heart condition), when all else failed, by giving her a kitten. The animal kingdom is an integral part of our existence and can not be neglected in the subject of natural healing.
