Guest guest
I am a lurker on this list mostly as I am a relative newby to 'natural' medicine, and am learning a lot! I have a quick question...are there any herbs that can help postpartum depression? I have heard that St. John's Wort (I think) helps depression, but wasn't sure if it was safe to take while nursing. Thanks! Teri
Guest guest
I took st john's wort while nursing and my son started crying through the night. It was terrible...I've heard it is ok but it wasn't for my son. Thanks! Teri Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. If you are pregnant, consult your physician before using any natural remedy. 3. Guest guest
St. John's Wort is actually over-rated as a handling for depression. Traditionally, it was used to help clean out the Kidneys and the Bladder though it has other uses as well. One of the best things for PPD is Niacin. However, I think a thorough going over of your diet is in order. Since one question would lead to another, I'd just recommend you give me a call for a free consultation. I think you could handle this quite easily. Guest guest
St. John's Wort works inconsistently. It has something to do with a person's individual metabolism, and nobody has figured out the correlations yet. This type of depression has many possible origins, most of them of a spiritual nature. I have known some women who got it because the doctors they were seeing, were horribly uncaring. The less they saw of the doctors, the better they got. Sometimes it comes from casual but hurtful things said by a relative. It is vitally important for new moms to be surrounded by lots of love from family and friends. Also, beautiful art in the home, of any kind, is a great help against this problem.
