Guest guest
Hi all.. Hoping some of you more knowledgeable folks than I can help me out with this or at least offer some suggestions. I've been really sick the last several days with a reaction I get like an "allergy" to a substance. I have Environmental Illness ..and am considered a universal reactor. Right now my main concern is alleviating some pretty severe brain inflammation. This is not a headache...Feels like my brain is on fire...very intense. I understand this is a common reaction to exposures with chemical injury.. but non the less, I need to start to find better answers for this. Even my eyelashes feel like they are burning. As if an allergy causes a severe rash the principle is similar here... just trying to give some kind of an analogy. There are a host of other reactions that go along with this ..but trying to keep this post short...as if my brain chemistry is turned inside out... and not in a very negative way. Tonight I have taken some Gaba and some Passion Flower. I do have Valerian, hops, an a few other herbs in alcohol extracts...but at the moment can't get through the list. I could always get to a health food store by Saturday to get something else if I don't have it in the house. This is a reoccurring problem for me.. since my chemical injury has been severe. I haven't had such an acute bout like this in a long time.. and I can't sleep.. or rest..at least tonight so far. Last two nights have been h***. To be honest.....I'm not in good shape. I know I have to do some extra detoxing and all of that of course.. but wondering about alleviating symptoms in the meantime..and helping to calm down the inflammation? This is really rough stuff. Thanks... Beth
Guest guest
Thank you Michael for you reply. I did start Wild Yam this week so maybe not agreeing with me as well. This is a tough situation. There is a barrier that's supposed to prevent chemicals from affecting the brain like this. It's the "supposed to" that's the problem. The blood/brain barrier can be crossed. When you have chemical injury...usually there is also brain damage and inflammation which is clearly visible in Spect scans. The problem is treatment for highly sensitive individuals. I did consult with a several neurologists a long while back... but treatment is out of pocket and highly expensive when you go that route...and that's is not in my budget. He wanted me to be on oxygen 8 hours out of the day..I'm sure some of his treatments would have been beneficial.... but they were thousands of dollars. Sometimes you get tired of this merry-go round-spending money hand over fist as they say just to get by...and it does run out after a while. I won't even go there further than this as far as treatment for chemical injury and $$$$$$. More to the point.. this is a problem of exposures in people with EI/MCS. I am just one of many people I have met along my journey dealing with this. I don't really want to go to another neurologist about.. certainly because I can't tolerate pharmaceuticals well.. I'll ask around for the URL on the brain and inflammation with the Spect scans I received years ago. I don't have it in this computer. Will send it over to you if someone comes up with it. Thanks for mentioning the citrus. You rang a bell for me there also.. I probably can't tolerate it. .and have been having some oranges lately..which also might have contributed to this condition.. Thanks again. Beth any herbs at this point, because anything could react. Passion Flower is one i would be especially cautious with. When i need to flush stuff out of my body quickly, i drink lots of apple juice, and make sure i eat enough protein, starch, and vegetables to keep the blood sugar in balance. Make sure you don't have any citrus products within an hour of apple juice, to be on the safe side. It is possible that aloe vera juice might help too. Guest guest
Occasionally someone will find Wild Yam not agreeing with them. Not sure why, as it is a relatively mild herb. Often odd combinations of anything will cause problems for people in this situation. Can jump out like a tiger from the bushes. While researching my book, i ran into a lot of data on chemicals. I would really encourage anyone in this situation (since my book may not be readily available) to get training in the basics of chemistry, so you know what you're looking at on food and cleaning product labels. Privately, i have a number of references on this. At 12:54 PM 2/15/02 EST, you wrote: >Thank you Michael for you reply. Guest guest
Obviously if I am having trouble getting through the day.. I am not going to be taking a refresher home study chemistry class. PS I am a college graduate who minored in anthropology. I found this reply extremely insensitive as well as offensive..and not staying on target for the original post. If you don't have the answer ...better to say nothing rather than to be condescending. Generally, people that have health challenges don't have the stamina to start doing "homework" (chemistry study?) as you suggest. Do you know what it's like to fight for your life? Ever had an acute case of the flu?.. isn't it difficult enough just to get past that and do whatever responsibilities are necessary? Think about it. When you wrote me privately a while back (for whatever your reasons were) and started quoting the Bible.. I never said anything to you... but found THAT very out of place for an herbal discussion list...and I also thought that wasn't allowed. I didn't say anything to you at the time.. and just let it go. However.... now that you've been openly insulting...and I'm leaving, will mention how inappropriate that was. and PS I know how to read a label. While researching my book, i ran into a lot of data on chemicals. I would really encourage anyone in this situation (since my book may not be readily available) to get training in the basics of chemistry, so you know what you're looking at on food and cleaning product labels.
