Guest guest
Hi Doc and everyone!!! About 2 weeks ago, I ground up almost a pound of last summer's dried echinacea flower heads and about 1/2 pound of echinacea seed, and put it all into a 50/50 tincture. I crammed the jar full, and poured the tincture mixture over it. Well, yesterday, I uncapped it, and sampled just a FEW drops, and it was unbelievably strong. My whole tongue tingled big time for a long time afterwards. I really don't see how a person could actually consume more than a few drops at a time. Did I OD it??? Or will just a few drops do what a dropper or two full would??? Should I put it into a larger jar and dilute it down some more??? All these years I've been using the ol' 1:5 ratio for dried herbs, and have now discovered that the 'simplers' method creates a MUCH stronger tincture. Also, I tinctured some ground pequin chiles awhile back cause I didn't have any cayenne. These are, as I'm sure you know, even way hotter than cayenne chiles. Is this usable as a substitute for cayenne tincture, except in much smaller doses??? It's hottern' nine kinds of you know what!!! LOL!!! Thanks for any suggestions!!! Guest guest
Sound like you made some good stuff there. When my jars are full, they are 3/4'ers full with plant matter, so I don't believe in making it toooooo strong ;o) As for Cayenne, I use Habaneros or African Bird Pepper. It'll curl yer toes. ML, Doc PS. A good echinacea tincture will numb your mouth from 20 minutes to half an hour.
