Guest guest
Whenever the dentist works on me, I suffer a lot of pain and can stay sore for a few days afterwards. They say I have a sensitive mouth. I say it matters a whole lot who's in there... some definitely have more skill, while others behave like a bull in a china shop! <G> BTW, dear readers, do your dentists tell you that too? Or DO I have a sensitive mouth? Or is that just an excuse they use because they know they're klutzes? Or is it just another curse caused by being a redhead? I had a doctor tell me once that redheads seem to experience the most pain. But then, I had another doctor tell me that very few of his patients had remained conscious through the emergency procedure he'd just done on me (without anesthetic, the bum!)... but I had endured it stoicly. Or is this just bad ol' FMS rearing it's ugly head again? So how does one know? LOL! Anyhoo, after my dental visits, I get GOOD relief from the pain by putting about 2 drops Clove Oil into a cup, and adding maybe 6 drops of Olive Oil, then dipping a q-tip into that and painting it on the sore places in my gums. Works wonderfully! Usually takes 20 minutes to take effect, but the pain killing effects can be total and last 4-6 hours, PLUS it seems to heal up much quicker. Yeah!! My question is... what if I do the clove oil thing *before* my dental visit? Would that be okay? Or would the deep scaling make the oil do some kind of damage or mischief? I'm thinking if I used it beforehand I might be able to reduce the number of local anesthetic shots I need (which I hate - that one in the very back hurts like murder!). Has anybody tried this or do you have an opinion on it? Thanks! Melinda
Guest guest
Back in February, our infant son managed to find our bottle of clove oil, get the cap off, and drink an unknown amount (took all of 10 seconds) before Rose got to him. She called Poison Control, and they were not sure one way or the other. Their recommendation was to take him to the hospital for observation. A lot of blood tests were done, and there were some abnormalities, so he stayed overnight. There were no bad effects though -- he was fine through the entire ordeal. Clove oil is a natural sedative. In fact for many years i have made up clove tea for any sleeping difficulty, and i guess it works fine because i can never remember. Based on this experience, i would predict that having some clove oil in your gums when you go to the dentist should not be a problem. Here's another thought. Go to my web site, and dig out the article about using music as a dental anesthetic.
