Guest guest
Martha, I really understand your dilemma. I also have " periodontal disease " , which my dental hygienist says means " bone loss " . I think it's pretty common to experience some bone loss as we age, from what I'm hearing. I had three teeth loose when I posted about this about a month ago. One was barely loose... that has tightened totally back up. One was a little more loose and has tightened, but not all the way -- close, though. One was VERY loose and seems to have tightened some, but I'm not yet convinced that it will be saved. We'll see. Doc has the recipe for his formula in the Files, so I printed that out. I took it to my favorite HFS (health food store), and found an herbal mouthwash that doesn't contain alcohol, but has similar ingredients to Doc's formula, from what I can tell. I started alternating between using that, Listerine, Oxine, and hydrogen peroxide in my water pick, with fairly warm water. I've continued this practice. Note: Always run some clear water through the water pick after putting anything in it. It keeps the seals of the pick from rotting... plus it's an amusing (if splashy) way to clean your sink (and bathroom mirror)! <G> I'm also trying to brush and floss religiously. It helps me to keep floss available where I tend to eat and hang out. In addition to that, I've had a deep scaling by my dental hygienist, and I'll be having more of those. They say this is very important if we want to keep our teeth. The hygienist also gave me a little rubber tipped thingy and advised me to use it in the same method that Gogi described in her post. In addition to that, I ordered Doc's formula. I phoned him, but he wasn't there. I think maybe it was his wife that spoke with me, and advised me to use that formula for my last brushing every night right before bed, so that's what I'm doing. I was measured for depth in early December, and again a few days ago. I compared the two different measurements. There is definite improvement in most areas!!! I requested that they please photocopy a drawing of the teeth for me, and mark in RED the areas where I am having the most problems. They were kind enough to do that for me, so I taped that up on my bathroom mirror. That way I know what areas to really go after the most aggressively... like when I've water picked all my teeth and still have water left over. I've also begun to have a bit of loss of faith in my fancy, electric toothbrush. At least once a day I use my old-fashioned one, as I think it gets my teeth cleaner (I've tested this by flossing). I'm glad you brought this up, because I've been meaning to write and thank Doc for the expert advice -- thanks Doc! It's working!! Martha, my advice to you is to request a chance to see what you can do on your own before you give in and let them remove all of your teeth. You'll never know if you don't try, and once they're gone, they're gone. Don't give up without a fight! You go, girl!!! Melinda
