Guest guest
Make sure that you identify it correctly as: Oregon Grape or Mountain Grape = Berberis aquifolium; Mahonia aquifolium; Berberidaceae The only parts you will use will be the roots and the rhizome. Don't harvest all of what you have or you'll not get any more, so use every other, or every 3rd bush in order to preserve your stash ;o) Hope this helps. Guest guest
Definition of rhizome -- the thinner parts of the root. I had to look that up one time. Guest guest
The rhizome is lieterally from the Greek "to take root". It is a creeping stem lying usually horizontally, at or just under the surface of the soil and differs from a root in having "scale" like leaves or aerial shoots near its tips. Rhizomes can produce roots of their own and sometimes separate off into another parent plant. I use it in my Liver/Gallbladder tea and tincture, and in my Blood Detox Tea and Tinc. It can be used for other areas of the body as well, but it is predominantly known for the wonderful work it does with the liver.
